Hollywood movies are made on a grand scale which includes movies made on multi-million dollar budgets.

However the money spent on movies in Bollywood, although huge, stands nowhere in comparison to Hollywood. Bollywood is known for a different genre of movies called musicals and melodramas. Hollywood genres are varied but rarely enter the musical genre. Bollywood movies appeal more to the sentimental side of human nature while Hollywood tickles at the adventurous human spirit.

Hollywood is an older film industry having originated prior to before World War 1. Bollywood has later origins of talking movies in 1930's although its first silent movie Raja Harishchandra Hollywood is technologically superior to Bollywood. Bollywood has not been able to create technological marvels like Avatar and Titanic. However, the underwater movie Blue can be cited as an exception.

Personal choice. Since Bollywood movies are being released abroad, more cultures have a chance to view them.
Hollywood movies are dubbed or subtitled as well. Hollywood produces 500 films per year on average and has a worldwide audience of 2.6 billion Bollywood produces more than 1000 (not consistently) films every year and has a worldwide audience of 3 Billion.

Hollywood produces only a fraction of the number of films made all over the world, it garners a staggering 75% of total revenues and 50% of its earnings come from the foreign market whereas for Bollywood it is 20%.

Bollywoods NRI Connection Around 15 million Indian expatriates living in different parts of the world account for over 65% of Bollywoods earnings. An estimated $800 is spent by NRIs in Indian movies and music. US (2 million Indian expats), UK(1.5 million) , South Africa(1 million of Africas 2 million Indian population) are major markets for Bollywood.

Peepli Live seems to be so deeply rooted Indian comedy turned drama. What is Copied? The storyline is copied and well adapted to Indian audiences by adding the ingredients of Politics, Media and some contemporary issues. Peepli Live is rather based on Invitation To A Suicide rather than copied.

3) Satte Pe Satta Copy of Hollywood Musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers Seven Brides for Seven Brothers movie on Channel 4. Satte Pe Satta is 99.99% copy Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Even the scenes and sequences are copied without slight modification.
