Notation and conventions:

These will normally hold, unless they do not, in which case Ill make mention of the exception, unless I dont. Then someone should PM me or comment somehow on the confusion. UNITS : Although it is tempting to use units where c==1, Ill keep the s for now. We shall adopt SI units, much to my chagrin. We will probably use Gaussian units if SI gets ridiculous, Ill clarify this when necessary. VARIABLES: A bolded latin or greek letter shall represent a vector such as r, or . An italic latin or greek letter shall represent a scalar, such as or k. The scalar r in conjunction with a bolded r shall refer to the magnitude of the vector r, so that |r| = r. It is difficult to put hats on unit vectors, so youll see me avoid it. The unit vector for r will be written as r/|r|. The average value of a quantity q will be denoted <q>. If there may arise confusion between this meaning and the quantum mechanical expectation value it would be clarified. AXES: The coordinates (x,y,z) will be assigned the notation (e1,e2,e3) for their unit vectors. I will avoid using (I,j,k) for unit vectors because of the imaginary unit. The spherical coordinates may be used. The transformation is (x,y,z) = (r cos sin, r sin sin, r cos).
