A.Gerund
Gerund is the –ing form of a verb(Example: talking, playing,understanding).The functions of gerund is to replace noun, so sometimes in thesentences you can find a gerund replacing noun.Gerund as the object of  preposition.
(a)
We talked
about going
to Canada for our vacation.
(b)
Steve is in charge
of organizing
the meeting.
(c)
I’m interested
inlearning
more aboutyour work.
to
” is a preposition, not part of an infinitive form, so a gerundfollows.
(d)
I’m used to sleeping
with the window open.
(e)
I look forward togoing
home next homenext month.
(f)
They object tochanging
their plans atthis late date. Negatife form: “
not
” precedes agerund.
(g)
We talked about notgoing
to the meeting, but finally we decidedwe should go.
 
Verbs that Usually Followed By a Gerund
(a) I
enjoy playing
tennis.Gerunds are used as the objectsof certain verbs.
 Enjoy
is not followed by aninfinitive.INCORRECT: I enjoy to playtennis.(b) Joe
quit smoking

gave up smoking
.(b) and (c) have the samemeaning, and followed bygerunds.
