Defining a Soulmate

Over the years, I have found that some of the most asked questions are..... ' When will I meet my soulmate' or ' What does my soulmate look like?' and ' We are soulmates, why did he leave me?' . It seems that these commonquestions stem from one of the most misunderstood terms we'll encounter..... Soulmate. When most people hear the term soulmates, they get images of eyes drawn from across the room, somechildhood memory is stimulated and in a world changing moment, they lock lips and begin a long lastingromance. This imagine of a dashing knights and vikings or an innocent Lady standing by a creek bed waiting justfor you, has been sparked by Hollywood's romantic spin of unrealistic fantasy in order to take our money so that we may live out these fantasies vicariously through the characters. Most humans accept this as the correct andofficial viewpiont of what a soulmate is and isn't. But one only needs to remember how wrongly Hollywood has betrayed other mystical, otherworldly and occult ideals to understand Hollywood is only playing to our fantasiesto get into our pocketbooks. There are many different types of soulmates and not all of them are meantto have a romantic interlude with.Soulmates might be a person with whom we had some unfinished business with inthis life. Perhaps we have to right a wrong with them. Soulmates could be a business partner or a friend in which they help us understand our truest purpose inlife and aide us in achieving this.. or usfor them. There are soul families in whichsouls may gravitate towards one another because their energy is similiar and thereis this 'knowing' that gives personalstrength and understanding to themembers of a soul family. They may even be brought together in order to achieve acertain cause that is a collective purposethat needed to be achieved in thislifetime. Then there is that all famous soulmate that we all hope we find in this lifetime. What is quite suprising to me, isthe way so many believe they will know with their eyes.. they will hear the person's name whispered on the wind..that they will be so attracted to this person's body that they'll fall madly in love with them. Dr. Phil (even thoughI respect him as a psychologist..putting aside the comments on his website about how women need to lose weightto put the spark back in a marriage for the man.).. sponsers and advertises his matchmaking service as being ableto bring people in touch with their soulmate. So, in his perspective, you should be able to buy one after filling outa questionaire based upon what you know about yourself and about what you think you may need in a better half and select from the few they give to you.. to see which one you find physically attractive enough.. and then, walla !, you have found your soulmate.. eternal bliss has just opened up for you ! I think not.Let's talk about the terms soul and ego for a moment. According to Wikipedia......

The Greek word is derived from a verb "to cool, to blow" and hence refers to the vital breath, the animating principle in man and animals, as opposed to óῶìá "body". It could refer to a ghost or spirit of the dead in Homer  ,and to a more philosophical notion of an immortal and  immaterial essence left over at death since  Pindar . Latinanima

figured as a translation of øõ÷Þ since Terence. It occurs juxtaposed to óῶìá e.g. inMatthew 10:28:

ãåÝííῃ.Vulgate: et nolite timere eos qui occidunt corpus animamautem non possunt occidere sed potius eum timete qui potest et animam et corpus perdere in gehennam. KJV

"And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able todestroy both soul and body in hell."
Soul is the truest part of self.. that which reflects your truest nature. Our personality might be reflected by our soul and eventually our personality could combine within oursoul to blend with the core if we take care to reach personal enlightenment and self-actualization.The soul isn't the part of us that is ruled by the ego. Ego rules overour physical and more worldly attributes. Our ego makes up ouranimal nature, it reacts based upon our desires, our senses, our mostneglected and unnurtured areas of our persona. Our soul doesn'thave a need or desire that which rules over us. The soul is the pureessence of our nature. It's where we love (not lust) from, where wehave compassion, find enlightenment and from where we come tounderstand the secrets of the universe. The soul has no need tofulfill it's purpose by using the bodily senses or succumbing tophysical responses caused because of our unnurtured parts to ourego. Which are essentially obstacles set forth at the time of birth or whatever else rules our egos.To give an example in order to further understand Soul and Ego..look at newly born baby. Nothing matters to them, they are just theembodiment of love, trust and purity. When that child is in theirphysical body long enough, let's say the age of two.. they arecompletely ruled by the Ego. They want what they want right now just because their senses were stimulated. They want their food right now because they are hungry, they want the pretty toy right now because it caughttheir attention, they want to run when they want, they want to sleep when they want, they want to act out how they want when they want.. and all because they need thier egos pacified, and what better and quicker way to dothat.. than with instant gratification.Unfortunately, many people don't really make it beyond this age in spiritual growth, but that's a whole otherconversation I will have to delve into that at another time. Now, it's time to revisit Dr. Phil and his soulmatematching enterprise. When our 'love' is ruled by our ego, and our ego is just a neglected and unnurtured part of our persona that is often uneffected by the purist parts of our soul.. well, we simply don't know ourself enough toknow who we are, let alone know who our soulmate is... even if that person was standing in front of us. So how, praytell, can we pay a service to do this for us? As a society, I believe that we take for granted this ideal of soulmate. Nearly as if we are to be blessed withsomeone's beauty and grace in order to help us become better people and 'save' us. Well, in some way.. thisperson will aide us in progressing in life. However, I do believe that God/dess etc. would like for us to be able to be in a place within ourselves that we can understand what true spiritual union is. What it means to havesomeone that we can build a life with for the betterment of mankind. I believe that society's view of soulmate isoften a selfish one. I must pose the question... Why would God want to give us such a special person if we weren't willing enough to work towards the sanctity and purity of our own soul. Often times, before humans go throughthis process and get into a relationship (whether soulmate or not) it becomes destructive, as such a pure presenceas a soulmate is often a shock to the poison and toxins that pollute the soul that goes unnurtured, unrefined andimpure. We shouldn't celebrate such a beauty presence in our life by using our destructive and toxic impurities toinvade them. We should be able to give them the gift they give us.. a pure, special and unique loving person whois ready to embrace them, giving and sharing in a spiritual and physical union that goes beyond what we have in
