Eddyline opened in May 2009 over the CKS Paddlefest weekend with the goal of serving exceptionally drinkable beers
suited for any outdoor adventure whether just a quick play session in the river, celebrating a tough 14er, mountain biking
any of the epic single track, or just kicking back on the deck overlooking the beautiful Arkansas valley. In September 2011,
Eddyline opened its production brewery and started canning their CrankYanker IPA. Eddyline chose cans over bottles due
to their much smaller environmental impact, better ability to preserve the quality of the beer, and suitability to be enjoyed in
an outdoor environment.
The CrankYanker IPA deviated from the traditional american IPA where the emphasis was on maximizing bitterness to
maximizing the hop aroma and balancing the malt profle with the bitterness for absolute drinkability. Following the success
and rapid market response to the CrankYanker, Eddyline launched a pilsener for CKSs Paddlefest called Boater Beer. This
was followed by their Mountain Fairy Raspberry wheat
named after the feeling one has as they are trekking
through alpine meadows flled with raspberries and

EDDYLINE BREWING
Eddyline Brewing was founded by Mic and Molley Heynekamp
in 2009 fulflling their dream of raising their three children in the Arkansas River valley. Mic
and Molley Heynekamps brewing experience began in the early 90s as homebrewers while
pursuing their respective geology and accounting degrees. During their free time they would
make the trek northward to Salida and Buena Vista to kayak the Arkansas, climb the mighty
14,000 peaks of Colorado, and visit the few microbreweries that were beginning to sprout up.
Fast forward to 1997 when the reality of moving to Houston to work as a geologist began to
sink in, Mic and Molley realized the key to living a mountain lifestyle was to transform their
home brewing hobby into a business and in 1999 they found the open door that led them to
launch Socorro Springs Brewing Co. During the next several years as Socorro Springs thrived
and grew, Mic pursued an airline career before realizing being home and raising a family was
more important and that it was time to fnd the path to the mountains and rivers of Colorado.
In 2005, they decided that Buena Vista was the key to their dreams and began investigating
the possibilities.
During the decade that transpired from when there were just a few dozen Colorado
microbreweries to when they decided to call Buena Vista home, nearly 200 microbreweries
were started. The Heynekamps knew that to be successful in such a competitive arena they
had to produce beers that were exceptional. The Heynekamps moved to Buena Vista with
their relatives Brian England and Ryan McFadden who were to manage Eddyline. Eddyline
initially began as a brewpub featuring wood-fred pizzas and grilled items in a location on the
banks of the Buena Vista river park brewing on a three barrel brewery. By the second summer
capacity had been reached at 400 barrels (1 barrel = 31 gallons) and the planning process had
begun to build a bigger brewery and canning facility to can the Eddyline beers.
TITLE SPONSOR:
wildfowers in awe of the magical scene. This beer
was followed by the Pumpkin Patch Pale Ale which
won a silver medal at the All Colorado Beer Festival.
In October of 2012 at the Great American Beer
Festival, Eddylines River Runners Pale Ale won a
prestigious gold medal and became their ffth beer
to be canned. From brewing less than 300 barrels
in 2009 they are on track to brew more than 3000
barrels for 2013.
Eddyline chose to take over where New Belgium
Brewing left becoming the title sponsor of the
65th year of FIBArk, Colorados oldest and largest
whitewater festival. Taking over as the title sponsor
was a natural choice as Eddyline believes in pairing
beers that are specifcally designed to complement
the outdoor enthusiast, supporting a local event
that epitomizes the reasons the Heynekamps have
called the Arkansas valley home, and the belief that
Eddyline can build on the legacy that
FIBArk has grown.

On behalf of the 2013 FIBArk Board of Directors, welcome to
Salida and the nations oldest whitewater festival! The FIBArk
Whitewater Festival presented by Eddyline Brewing is made
possible by the tireless efforts put forth by a dedicated group of
volunteer board of directors.
Selected from the local community, these members assist
in the year-round planning needed to produce an event like
FIBArk. Throughout the fall and early winter the board meets
approximately once a month. Then, as winter slowly releases
its grip and spring begins to emerge, board meetings happen
more frequently and in the weeks leading up to the festival,
board members gather weekly at the FIBArk boathouse to
secure fnal details of this historic event.
Responsibilities of board members include operating the
festival as a 501 c(4) non-proft corporation, attracting and
retaining sponsors, planning the races and events, reviewing
entertainment and vendors, community outreach, and
promotion of the event. This year the board has placed a
greater emphasis on youth paddling programs in an effort to
promote whitewater paddling and river stewardship.

HISTORY
FIBArk
The original boat races were organized and promoted by the
Salida Chamber of Commerce to attract people to the area
and to promote international relations with foreign countries.
Tradition reigns at FIBArk with the down river race and FIBArk
parade occurring every year from 1949 to 2013. In 1953 Salida
offered the frst whitewater slalom event held on the North
American continent and the event still continues today.
The Denver & Rio Grande Western special train ran from
1949 until 1967 and the frst Hooligan Race began in 1955.
Golf tournaments and car races were run in the 50s and the
frst carnival set up in 1957. A rodeo was held in conjunction
with FIBArk in the 60s, and in 1964 a sidewalk bazaar, fshing
contest, international dance exhibition, a kayak water polo
contest were added to the festivities.
The 70s introduced the Sertoma Service
Club Breakfast, entertainment in
Riverside Park, the Tenderfoot Hill Climb and a 10K foot races,
all which have all continued to this date. Through the 1980s,two
bicycle races, quilting, beer tasting, airbands, karaoke,
windsurfng, Jell-O wrestling, burro racing and Art in the Park
were additions made to the event.
EVERY YEAR IN JUNE,
DURING THE ARKANSAS
RIVER RUNOFF IN SALIDA,
COLORADO, A FESTIVAL
OCCURS CALLED FIBArk
In 1988 boulders were dropped in the river from the F St. Bridge to create a kayak playhole and
Salida completed the boat ramp next to the FIBArk Boathouse. In 1992 FIBArk worked to create
a year-round slalom course and kayak playground in the river in front of the FIBArk Boathouse.
And, since 1995, the whitewater freestyle kayak competition has been part of the FIBArk
festivities. Improvements along the banks of the Arkansas River were wrapped up in 2003 and in
2005 a major renovation of Riverside Park was completed which included a new amphitheater.

Larry is also an accomplished sailor, winning many national championships, setting records and helping
others build rigging and even boats. In the 1950s he built the frst whitewater racing canoe which he and Paula
used to claim their national titles. Additionally he built many of the frst rigid racing kayaks used by FIBArk
competitors in the down river and slalom races.
In the fall of 2012, Zuk was selected as for an American Canoe Association Legend of Paddling Award for his
effort in paddle sports. Later in 2012, the Colorado Whitewater Association presented him the Founders Award.
He recently published the book Stories of a Century of Canoeing and Canoes, and is in the process of writing
a second book titled Early White Water Canoeing and Kayaking in the Rocky Mountains 1949-1969.
STEVE & ERIC FRAZEE
The father and son team of Steve and Eric Frazee are local legends around Salida and FIBArk. Its with
great pride and honor that FIBArk places them into the hall of fame for their pioneering spirit, assistance in
advancing FIBArk and championship paddling skills.
Steve was born in Salida in 1909, raised in Garfeld when it was a mining camp and ended up graduating from
Western State College in 1937. He died in 1992. He served as the 1959 FIBArk Commodore when that position
held more responsibility that it does today. He was a driving force behind FIBArk early on, taking on the
responsibility of coaching gate judges, coordinating with the American Canoe Association and fund-raising
to attract international competitors. Although he didnt race, Steve helped set slalom courses, organized free
housing for competitors and was the go-to-guy behind the scenes of FIBArk. For all of his work with FIBArk,
Steve demanded no acknowledgement, no kudos. He did it for the love of the town and sport.
Steve served as the director of the Salida Building and Loan Association, was the citys building inspector
and eventually retired in 1978 as the district court probation offcer for Chaffee and Fremont Counties. He was
known as an accomplished fy fsherman, seeking out streams and lakes around the Garfeld area where he
had a cabin.
Notably, Steve was a writer, penning more than 50 books and short stories with Western heritage themes. A
number of his stories were turned into flms and popular TV series like Bronco, Zane Grey Theater and
Cheyenne. Steve also wrote big budget movies like Many Rivers to Cross and Gold of the Seven Saints.
He was president of the Western Writers of America. In 1961 he won the Western Heritage Award and was
honored by the Cowboy Hall of Fame.
Eric was an original river rat. He started foating the Arkansas River on an inner tube at food stage. His dad
bought him his frst racing kayak in 1955 and he started racing around Salida and Colorado, teaming up with
best friend and kayak buddy Carol Kane and other notable river runners of the day like Erich Seidel and Xaver
Wuerfmannsdobler.
In 1957 Eric, at the age of 17, he and Carol represented the U.S. at the world championships in Germany.
The course was brutal but it was an experience of a lifetime for the young boaters who returned with new
knowledge. Soon after returning, they were practicing rolls
at Salida Hot Springs and Franz Lake and the locals were
quick to follow suit. Carol and I were the frst Americans
to take on what slalom was really about on the world-wide
stage, Eric said.
Eric left the area in 1959 and moved to Los Angeles and
bounced around between there and Denver. Hes an
accomplished musician and still plays today. Hes been a
writer, television camera man and home builder. Eric has two
daughters, Janine and Rene, and he currently lives in Bailey.
This year the FIBArk Whitewater Festival presented by
Eddyline Brewing marks its 65th anniversary as the nations
oldest whitewater festival and Salidas signature event.
Since 1949, every June during the spring snow runoff, Salida
has hosted FIBArk, First in Boating on the Arkansas. For a
full schedule of FIBArk events and history, visit Fibark.com.
Three whitewater boaters have been selected into the 2013 class of the FIBArk Hall of Fame.
Larry Zuk, Steve Frazee and Eric Frazee will join the hall of fame which was established in 2008
to recognize and honor those individuals who have made signifcant contributions to the FIBArk
Festival.
LARRY ZUK
Larry Zuk is selected to the FIBArk Hall of Fame for his dedication to racing, superior boat design
and overall leadership within the whitewater community.
Zuk, who is 90 and currently lives in Longmont, frst raced at FIBArk in 1954 where he was
the top American fnisher in the slalom races placing ffth overall and a top 15 fnisher in the
downriver.
He and his wife Paula went on to participate in many more FIBArk races through the years
continually fnishing as the top American athletes in down river, slalom kayaks and slalom
canoes. In 1956 at FIBArk Larry earned the national championship of the K1 slalom race. He and
Paula also claimed the national title of the C2 race. During the same time Larry was participating
in FIBArk, he was an important fgure in the development of racing rules and procedures for the
event.
Larry is the founder of the Colorado White Water Association which dates to 1954 and he has
held numerous leadership positions in the American Canoe Association both regionally and
nationally. He was National Commodore of the ACA in 1975-76 and he helped lead the ACA
100th Anniversary Committee in 1979-80. Larry has been an offcial to several international
competitions including the 1976 Olympics.

Brought to FIBArk in the ffties, slalom racing requires paddlers to negotiate a course of gates, poles hung three feet apart and
suspended above the river, through the Whitewater Park in downtown Salida. The accessibility of the river corridor in Salida
makes this event very spectator friendly. Slalom places a premium on technical skill as paddlers are timed and penalized
for missing, or even touching, a gate as they pass through. An Olympic sport, the FIBArk slalom regularly attracts top-fight
competitors paddling alongside weekend warriors and aspiring racers.
WHITEWATER SLALOM AGE GROUP NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
FIBArk is proud to host the 2013 Whitewater Slalom Age Group National Championships for the second year in a row! In this
competition, racers navigate through a series of slalom gates hung over the river. The fastest time through the gate sequence
wins the race, with time penalties added for touching or missing a gate.
At Age Group Nationals, national champions will be determined in all ICF age groups: cadets (14 and under), juniors (15 to 18), U23
(19 to 23), Senior (30 to 39) and Master (40 to 49).

PADDLING PROGRAM
This community program offers youth
paddlers from 8 to 18 years of age
opportunities to participate in whitewater
kayaking and canoeing. FIBArk provides
equipment and training for beginner,
intermediate and advanced paddlers
throughout the year, offering beginner pool sessions at the Salida Hot Spring Pool in the winter
and intermediate and advanced river sessions year round. The skills taught begin with boat
ftting, basic strokes, balancing, safety, wet exits, T-rescues and calm water rolls, and progress
to advanced river safety and hydrology, whitewater risk assessment, advanced stroke technique
and combat rolls.
The state of Colorado is nationally renowned for its pool of consistently talented junior paddlers.
These youth are supported by a handful of schools and communities across the state that train
and boast nationally competitive paddling teams. For youth paddlers interested in competition,
FIBArk offers coaching in three disciplines: freestyle, wildwater and the Olympic sport of
whitewater slalom. FIBArk is excited to expand competitive sports options for middle-school and
high-school paddlers in the upper Arkansas Valley. A series of competitive events, the Rocky

PARTICIPATION IN WHITEWATER SPORTS.
Mountain Whitewater Cup, is held annually around Colorado giving Colorado youth a chance to
compete against their peers. The winners of this series are named regional champions and go
on to receive national sponsorship from USACK. In April, FIBArk was proud to host the second
leg of this series, called the FIBArk RunOff.
The FIBArk Board of Directors is committed to the Youth Paddling Program and dedicates funds
to it each year for rental of the Salida Hot Springs Pool and for youth-sized boats, paddles and

MOUNTAIN FAIRY RASPBERRY
WHEAT
High alpine wildfower prairies, remnants of winters snow,
skies so blue they hurt to look at and Raspberries so ripe
they almost cant be picked is what this beer is made of.
Real raspberries, wheat malt, Colorado honey blended with
some alpine magic all combine to form the perfect summer
mountain beer that starts with a bold raspberry aroma but
fnishes crisp and dry.
RIVER RUNNERS PALE ALE
River Runners Pale Ale has been our long-time favorite
session beer. Enough hops to satisfy our hophead, solid
malt backbone, and crisp fnish making you want more; the
folks at River Runners loved this beer as well and we named
it after them since they were the frst to put it on tap right
after we opened in 2009. We were pleasantly surprised this
past October when the judges at the Great American Beer
Festival felt the same way we all did and awarded this a
Gold medal.
14ER JAVA STOUT
The Arkansas River valley has the highest concentration
of 14,000 peaks in Colorado and this beer is every bit as
big. Checking in at a 8.2% ABV, three pounds of the Buena
Vista Roastery coffee per barrel, and lots of roasted and
chocolate malts make this a rich, malty java stout.
DESCRIPTIONS
EDDYLINE BEER
BOATER BEER PILSNER
Hot summer days and cool river waters is what this beer
was designed for. A light 4.5% ABV session pilsner made
with enough maltiness for a solid initial mouthfeel but a
crisp fnish. This beer is lightly dry-hopped to give it a nice
summery foral hoppiness. This beer was made for a simple,
no-thought required, refreshing enjoyment!
CRANK YANKER IPA
Our top selling beer is the CrankYanker IPA. Like your
favorite single track ride this IPA has it all. Big maltiness up
front, bold aroma from the El Dorado hops, crisp bitterness
all combine to make this a very balanced and easy drinking
IPA. Checking in at 7% ABV yet easy drinking for your
celebratory rides.
JOLLY ROGER BLACK LAGER
Black as the midnight sky, bold as a pirate! This black lager
is an unpretentious roasty and easy drinking lager. This
black lager is at home on the river or in the grass. Big favor,
smooth crisp fnish.
KICKIN BACK AMBER LAGER
Eddyline makes beers for any adventure....sometimes that
adventure means scaling the stairs to your favorite deck
looking out at the peaks while performing the epic move
of putting up your barefeet and kickin back that deck chair
with a cold, crisp amber lager that is pure refreshment. This
amber lager is a light brown lager with a toasty nuttiness
and crisp fnish from the German and American hops.
