Abstract:
The goal of the SunWiseSchool Program is to teach children andtheir care givers how to protectthemselves from overexposure to thesun. The SunWise School Programrecognizes the challenge of measuringthe progress and evaluating theeffectiveness of an environmental andpublic health education program wherethe ultimate goal is to reduce risk andimprove public health. Therefore, thecontinual and careful evaluation of program effectiveness through a varietyof means, including data from pre- andpost-intervention surveys, tracking andmonitoring of classroom activities andschool policies, and advisory boardmeetings, is necessary to monitorprogress and refine the program.Surveys to be developed andadministered include: (1) Studentsurvey to identify current sun safetyknowledge and behaviors amongstudents; (2) Parent survey to comparefindings with those of their children aswell as to draw comparisons with the benchmarks established in othernational surveys; and (3) Teacherquestionnaire for measuring theirreceptivity to the educationalcomponent of the Program. The datawill be analyzed and results willindicate the Program
