The state has 11 National Highways,

The National Highway 6, Mumbai to Kolkata, goes through Chhattisgarh. National Highway 43 - from Raipur to Vishakhapatnam. National Highway 16, from Hyderabad to Dantewada district at Bhopalpatnam. National Highway 78 connects Katni in Madhya Pradesh to Gumla at Jharkhand. It passes through Jashpur district, Koria, Sarguja and Surajpur.

 Chhattisgarh is a mineral/forest resources rich state. So transport of minerals and forest produce towards

the industrial centres forms the major component of traffic movement on the roads.
Ribbon development/direct access of villagers on roads. Lack of training infrastructure in driving

Liberal licensing system and poor driving skills.

Stress and fatigue of drivers. Pressure of driving for long hours. Alcoholism/drunken driving. Overloading of vehicles. Sale of vehicles particularly motorcycles without registration or driving license.

Changing socio economic scenario particularly in rural areas leading to increased mobility.
Acquisition of vehicles by persons without having driving skills. Weak and ineffective controls on fitness of vehicles particularly heavy commercial transport vehicles. Ever increasing volume of traffic and density of vehicles with road width and road facilities not growing at the same pace. ```

Development of national highways and its complete related infrastructure is not proper.
Service road, parking bay, intersections, merging side roads and under passes have not been planned in advance.

Need for dedicated expressway for goods transport in Chhattisgarh. Induction of multi axel vehicles and worthiness of roads.

Road side Dhabas and Liquor shops to be regulated. Proper road infrastructure should be planned while planning for development and industrialisation. Urban planning should be in such a way that needs and services should be available in the vicinity with minimum traffic movements. Local traffic and highway traffic should not merge together as far as possible.
