Jesus and Mohammed1Running head: JESUS AND MOHAMMEDJesus and MohammedMark Z GriggAxia College of the University of Phoenix

Jesus and Mohammed2AbstractIn today’s society there are two major religions that seem to be hell bent on destruction of the other. This seems almost absurd since they both claim the same history. The major prophetsof both religions are similar in their history and message. One cannot help but wonder if thesemen could see what their message has become if they would not be disappointed. It takes awhole lot of good to transform a religion. However it takes only a couple of bad events carriedout in the name of those religions to permanently damage the way they are viewed. The faces of religions are often scarred by the tragedies that have occurred in their name. The person on theoutside looking in has to wonder how such messages left by the prophets could be interpreted ina way that allows these behaviors.

Jesus and Mohammed3Jesus and MohammedThe religions of Christianity and Islam are large religions that influence world events ona daily basis. It is impossible to turn on the TV and not find a story that has the two referenced init somewhere. In this paper I would like to give background on the two prophets who areconsidered the founders of these religions as we know them today. We will cover how they lived, how they are worshipped, and how their message has been carried out.Jesus, according to religious writings, was born of woman but conceived of God. This isreferred to as the virgin birth. Traveling for census his family was in Bethlehem at the time of his birth. They then returned to Nazareth where Jesus grew up. Little is known about Jesuschildhood in Nazareth (Fisher, 2005). We have records of his traveling to the Holy city of Jerusalem at the age of twelve. For all intents and purposes his ministry really seems to have begun around the age of thirty years of age. It ended at roughly thirty four years old incrucifixion. As for children or wives, there is no record that Jesus had either. Jesus was executed by the Romans at the request of the religious leaders of the day who felt him to be a radical.According then to religious text three days later he arose from the dead, later ascending toheaven. For all accounts the life of Jesus was a peaceful one that fulfilled Old Testament prophecies of the Jewish faith for the savoirs arrival.Muhammad received revelations from God, referred to as Allah, and they were recordedin the Qur’an. The Qur’an is the holy text of the Islamic religion. Islam traces its religion to thesame ancestor as the Jewish and Christian religions. Abraham had an illegitimate son by anEgyptian slave named Hagar. The son was Ishmael, who Abraham took to Mecca to protect himfrom the jealousy of his wife. There they built the holiest sanctuary in Islam the Ka’bah; this is believed to be the Adam’s original place of worship (Fisher, 2005). Adam is the first man created

There are some statements made in this text that are entirely inaccurate. Two of the biggest mistakes are that the Prophet Mohamed had only 4 wives. He in fact had 9. Secondly, after the prophet Mohamed's death, it was not Ali that led the muslim nation, it was Abu Bakr as-siddique. This is well known to be the root of the conflict between the shiite and sunni sects. The shiite claim that Ali SHOULD have taken the leadership role, and even they will admit it was Abu Bakr.
