Gorgeous Geek Chapter LXXIII: The End of Boredom

Chapter LXXIII: The End of Boredom

Up until this year, Rin Hamada had always been a hardworking, respectable girl in Adrian's eyes. She was rarely absent for band practice and she would be the most focused of the bunch. He wouldn't have to tell her twice about making the same mistake. Adrian had always liked that part of Rin. Lately though, she had been the opposite of her usual character, which bothered him. Adrian tried not to show it though, since that would also be out of his usual character. Ri-chan, said Jordan from the other side of the gate. Rin and the rest of her band members turned to him with interest. I'll be going ahead. I'll meet you in front of my car. You know where it's parked right? Rin nodded. Yes. I'll be there. Cool. Where are you going? I'm starving, said Jordan, groaning. I'll buy you something too. Later then. Wait, said Rin after Jordan. I don't want anything! Jordan waved back at her. Keep practicing Ri-chan! Adrian glanced in Rin's direction before he started playing to force everyone to follow his lead. Rin quickly picked up her sax and played along with them. After ten minutes, Adrian ordered everyone to carry the stands and start heading back to the band room. Rin and Adrian were in the back of the group. You're really dating that guy, said Adrian casually. The rumors are real, said Rin under her breath. I'm disappointed, said Adrian, keeping his eyes forward. Rin lowered her eyes. I don't want to deny the truth. Rin took in a deep breath. I don't want to disappoint you either. What am I supposed to do with you? asked Adrian, frowning. Nothing, said Rin bravely. After a pause, Adrian tossed Rin a softer look. If you regret it, you should stop associating yourself with those people. Adrian lifted his eyes up at the dark evening sky. I never took you to be the type of girl who liked a boy for his looks. Rin's eyes widened in surprise. No... I don't. I have spoken out of line. Excuse me. Adrian, said Rin, stopping Adrian from walking faster. It's okay. I like it when you criticize me. They're really helpful. Rin Hamada... I really look up to you, said Rin, glancing away. I really do, Adrian. I don't want you to hate me. If so, said Adrian, straightening his back. Please don't give me a reason to. Adrian, said Rin, devastated. Arav really likes you, said Adrian, keeping a straight face on. So do Edwin and others. Out of all of them, why do you have to date that pretty boy? That pretty boy is, said Rin, lowering her voice tremendously. My best friend. Your what?

My best friend, said Rin firmly. Adrian lifted a brow. That's inconceivable. Why would you be best friends with him? And more than that, why would you date your best friend? Because, said Rin, stopping outside the band room with Adrian. I've given up on love. I've given up on being in a passionate relationship that only ends in heartbreak. Rin managed to hold the tears back. Instead, I want to be there for Jordan. I want to protect him. I want a more peaceful relationship. You shouldn't be on the rebound, said Adrian suddenly. It's not good for you. Adrian? asked Rin with wide eyes. I have nothing more to say to you, said Adrian, entering the band room. After Rin put away her stand and music, Rin picked up her saxophone and walked by herself toward the school gates. Jordan had already taken her backpack to his car earlier. She thought about how much homework she had this week. She thought about how weird that she and Jin were not going to speak to each other for a while. At the school gates, Rin thought she saw Kristian standing there and waiting for her. One of their earlier fights, Kristian would always be the one who found her and convinced her that everything was fine with them. Kristian would help them make up again and then, they would not talk about it. They would push their problems aside instead of resolving them. It was like that for a month. Rin frowned at the thought of Kristian. Out of impulse, Rin went inside the main building. She dashed down the hallway and peeked into the detention room. As expected, Kristian was in there, chatting with everyone around him. He was acting so normal. It was as if nothing ever happened to him. He reverted completely to how he was before. Hurt, Rin sat outside the classroom and hugged her knees to herself. She wanted to talk to him again as friends or as classmates. Anything was better than ignoring each other. After a few minutes, she recovered and stood up. Jordan was waiting for her. She couldn't be selfish and stay here, ignoring her current boyfriend. With that in mind, Rin nodded to herself, put on a strong face, and left the building in a hurry. She had wasted too much time there already. Unfortunately, she didn't stay long enough for Kristian to leave the classroom and check up on her. Rin-chan, thought Kristian, going back inside the classroom and closing the door behind him. Why are you stalking me now? Outside, Rin skipped along the sidewalk and found Jordan's car in the exact same spot he parked in this morning. Indeed, Jordan was leaning against the car, waiting for her. Rin went up to him with an apologetic smile on her face. Instead of greeting her, Jordan handed her an ice cream sandwich still inside the wrapper. Thanks, said Rin awkwardly. No problem. Rin noticed Jordan was empty-handed. What happened to yours? Did you eat it already? Jordan shook his head with a broad smile. Huh? I bought a drink and your ice cream and had no money leftover. You doofus, said Rin, laughing. You should have calculated in your head. I'm not good at that, said Jordan, watching her remove the wrapper. If you're still hungry, said Rin, holding it up to Jordan. You can have it. I'm good. Rin pouted. You said you were hungry. I was, said Jordan in agreement. And all you had was a drink...

Jordan smiled at her. Good enough. Besides, I have a plan. You're going to withdraw more money? asked Rin curiously, taking a bite out of her ice cream sandwich. That's too much of a hassle. Rin rolled her eyes and ate more of her sandwich. Lazy. It's not that, said Jordan insistently. I have a better plan. What plan? asked Rin, too curious. Bending over, Jordan took a huge bite out of Rin's ice cream sandwich without asking. Rin gasped loudly. Half of her sandwich was gone in a few seconds. Jordan knew he was in trouble so he had to give her the best innocent, puppy expression he could manage. It didn't help though because Rin began to push and kick him. You said you weren't hungry! Jordan hid his face. I changed my mind! Give it back, said Rin childishly, hitting him. Give my ice cream back! Stop hitting me! You're so awful! Fine, said Jordan, holding both hands onto her shoulders. I'll give it back! Hurt, Rin cried, How? Eyes wide, Rin realized how short she really was in comparison to Jordan. He was around six feet. She was a few inches over five feet. Somehow though, he managed to lower himself at exactly the right height to kiss her. She wasn't prepared for this so she dropped the bit of her ice cream sandwich on her shoes. When Rin felt the ice cream on her shoes, she pushed Jordan away and bent down to clean her shoes. Jordan crouched down to help, but Rin blushed and moved away from him. Ri-chan? asked Jordan, clueless. Rin stuttered, You... you... Surprise? asked Jordan, grinning helplessly. I hate French kissing! Jordan was taken aback. I forgot. Am I going to die? With a bright red and angry face, Rin screamed, Yes! Die! Die Jordan! Die you bastard! Give me back my innocence! Running around the car, Jordan said over his shoulder, Do you really want me to give you back your innocence the same way? Die! In the middle of their chase, Jordan stopped abruptly in his tracks. Rin bumped into his back and noticed that he was staring across the street. Curious, Rin followed Jordan's gaze. Before she could see what he was observing, Jordan whirled around and clapped his hands over her eyes. Rin screamed and tried to force his fingers off, but his shaking hand was so tight over her eyes that she couldn't budge them at all. Jordan! In a whisper, Jordan said, It's better this way. Let go, said Rin in the nastiest voice she could manage. I can't do that. If you keep protecting me like this, said Rin in a quivering voice. How am I supposed to grow stronger? Jordan refused to remove his hand. It's okay. You don't have to. You're a hypocrite. I'll grow stronger to protect you instead, said Jordan under his breath.

Rin allowed a snort. Why should you? You don't love me. You're cruel, said Jordan, hurt. Why do humans act like this? asked Rin after a short period of silence. Jordan didn't say anything. Her last words were so painful he couldn't respond. We say one thing and do the complete opposite. We feel one way and think the other. Rin paused and laughed miserably. Jordan felt tears under his hands. How many more times must I tell myself that I don't really love him anymore before it actually comes true? You shouldn't be in denial, said Jordan sternly, recovering. We talked about it before right? You should embrace those memories. You should embrace those feelings and move on. Dropping her head, Rin mustered, Who is he with? You don't need to know. I want to go home, said Rin miserably. You want to go out to dinner after tutoring? Rin moved Jordan's hands away from her eyes. You should save up, Jordan. I know, said Jordan, sighing. I need to move out as soon as possible. That's not what I mean, said Rin quickly, lowering her eyes. I don't want you to spend and dote on me. I don't deserve your charity. I don't want to take advantage of you because we're supposedly dating. If you feel that way, said Jordan, lowering himself to her height again. You pay for yourself and I pay for myself. Rin hesitated, but gave up. Okay then. I'll drive you home now. Thanks. After Rin went inside his car, Jordan noticed that Kristian was gone now. He wanted to protect Rin from seeing Kristian with other girls, but at the same time, Jordan knew he didn't want Rin to keep thinking about Kristian. Jordan knew he was being selfish, but he couldn't help it. If Rin were to abandon him, he would have no one left. He and Jin split up. He and Victoria also split up. Rin was the last person he could depend on. He didn't want to lose her no matter what. At the same time, he couldn't control himself around her. He blamed her silky Asian hair. He couldn't keep his hands off her and he was suffering from it. Driving to her house, Jordan glanced in her direction. Rin was resting her eyes. She was so oblivious. Jordan smiled. He wished for her to stay that way. It was for the best. ************************************************************ In the boys' locker room, Bo wiped his brow from all the training he had done in the past couple of hours thanks to Jezebelle. Jezebelle had been tough on all the members of the football team for a first day. Bo didn't mind since he get to see her in a skimpy uniform, but a lot of the other boys were complaining about the training. At the same time though, if they ditched practice, Alejandro would go after them. In other words, Jezebelle had gotten everything under her control, whether they liked it or not. See you, Bobby, said Lil, leaving the locker room ahead. Later, said Bo, closing his own locker. Everyone was gone except for Bo. Bo had been thinking so much about everything that happened today that he hadn't noticed everyone leaving one by one. The first person he thought of now that no one was here was none other than Rin. Bo wondered if she was happy even after what had happened to her this year. I want to stalk her but, thought Bo, leaving the locker room. I'm not allowed to.

What do I do with my time now? In the middle of his stroll toward the front gate, Bo bumped into Tiffany, who just left and locked the journalism room behind her. Bo grinned and greeted Tiffany, who returned the gesture. Under the dark sky, the two of them headed for the front gates together. Bo noticed that Tiffany was in a solemn mood, but he pretended not to notice. How are you, Tiffy? asked Bo with a charming grin. Sighing, Tiffany muttered, Tired. You? Same as always. Nothing ever gets you down, said Tiffany, envious. It seems so, said Bo, nodding. Tiffany lifted a brow at Bo. Seems so? I actually need a friend right now, said Bo, keeping his eyes forward. Me too, said Tiffany, shifting her attention from Bo to the ground instead. I don't have any friends left. Eunice and Jennifer really have deserted you, haven't they? asked Bo carefully. No, that's not it, said Tiffany, shaking her head. I pushed them away. Aren't you afraid of being alone? Tiffany bit her lip. I'm used to it. Tiffany sighed and continued, I grew up as an only child. I grew up with little to no friends. It's no wonder then. What? Bo turned his head to Tiffany and grinned, You seem like one of those strong, independent girls who scoff off at the sight of hot boys. Tiffany blushed slightly. It's not like I'm not interested... It's because you're loyal to Jin, said Bo automatically for her. I was going to say that Jennifer is so boy-crazy that I don't have to add to the fuel, said Tiffany through gritted teeth. Thanks a lot, Bo. You're welcome, my dearest Tiffany. Bo, said Tiffany, staring at the sky mindlessly. What have I done to Jin? Why does he hate me now? Bo's eyes widened. I tried calling him... I tried visiting him... I even tried greeting him in school this past week... but he ignores me. Tiffany closed her eyes. It's like I don't even exist. Does this mean we're friends if you're telling me this? asked Bo innocently. I don't know, said Tiffany honestly. I have no one else to talk to. Bo blinked. You're not fine being by yourself then. No, no, said Tiffany, shaking her head frantically. I'm really used to it. I don't even notice anymore. It doesn't affect me at all. Tiffany stopped and lowered her head. She hugged the black binder close to her chest. I just want to ask those questions. I just want to let it out to someone. Tiffany is not such a strong, independent girl in the end, said Bo casually. At the front gates, Tiffany sighed and checked her surroundings. There were a couple of leftover students standing around. Her mother was so busy from work that she had to hang out around here for the next hour until she was free to pick Tiffany up from school. Bo had been quiet for the past couple of minutes. You're going home now, Bo? asked Tiffany, noticing Bo checking for his car. My sister needs me, said Bo under his breath. Tiffany blinked. Oh, I see. She has the fear of being alone outside of our house, said Bo quietly, avoiding

Tiffany's gaze. I devote my entire life of protecting her. Without me, she can't leave the house on her own. I never knew, said Tiffany cautiously. You're always so happy-go-lucky. I have a strong sense of honor, said Bo, pocketing his hands. That's why I like to protect you too, Tiffy. Tiffany's eyes widened as Bo turned around and grinned at her. We're friends, aren't we? I suppose we are, said Tiffany, uncertain. I want to guess something about you, said Bo, approaching Tiffany closely. Tiffany took a step back. Yes? You're a person who doesn't like to cry in front of other people, right? Even if you're really hurt? Stunned, Tiffany said, It's sensible to make that assumption about me. Hamada-sama is the same way, said Bo, distancing him from her again. But she's changed. I'm also the same way. I don't like to show emotion around other people. I don't want people to see me other than who I am currently. Everyone in this school is like that, said Tiffany with a sigh. I think so too, said Bo, wrapping his arms behind his neck. Isn't that the way the school system is build up to be, Tiffy? Tiffany picked her up and stared at Bo, stunned. Ever since I talked to you and Jordan during those secret meetings, I've been observing everything from Hamada-sama's situation to Jin's rise to popularity. Bo paused and chuckled. No one is themselves anymore. Not in this school. The suppression is suffocating, don't you think Tiffy? Bo, you're scary, said Tiffany in a blunt manner. By being an Asian Gossip Girl, said Bo, widening his grin. Aren't you making the system stronger? Tiffany was speechless. You knew about this from the beginning, right Tiffy? Why don't you do anything about it? After this year, said Tiffany softly. After I graduate, I told myself I would disband the Asian Gossip Girls for good. I would burn up this notebook. Tiffany squeezed the binder close to her. I would get rid of all data. I would make it so the Asian Gossip Girls never existed in the first place. Tiffy, you're so nave. Naive? asked Tiffany, surprised at how easily Bo said that. Even after you disband and destroy all those notes, said Bo, shaking his head. Do you think the school system will change? Not immediately, but gradually, said Tiffany, picking up her tone. You're unexpectedly optimistic, said Bo with a nod of approval. Tiffany rolled her eyes. 'Unexpectedly'? I'll drive you home, Tiffy, said Bo, changing the subject. I'm fine waiting for my mother here, said Tiffany, wrapping her arms in front of her chest. But thanks anyway. Bo laughed. I can't leave a girl waiting by herself. It's dangerous. I don't need your protection, Bo Sungwoo. I can't stalk the person I love anymore, said Bo in a serious tone, surprising Tiffany. The least I can do is help a girl when she needs it. You'll at least let me do that, right? Do whatever you want then. Bo winked and headed to his left. Follow me closely then. It's strange, isn't it? asked Tiffany, walking next to Bo to his car. A few weeks ago, we were in the same classroom as those two. Now, they're together and we're together, but

separately. Bo nodded. I did not predict this outcome at all. Tiffany stood in front of the passenger door. I hate this year. How come? Everyone is distancing themselves from one another, said Tiffany, sighing. You and me. Eunice and Jennifer. Jordan and Rin Hamada. Jin and Jezebelle. And so many others. Tiffany lowered her head. It's so sad. I never felt so far away from Jin as I do now. Bo went up to Tiffany and placed her head against his shoulder. It's okay, Tiffy. I don't want your pity, Bo. No worries, said Bo gently. I'm horrible at comforting girls. That you are. But, said Bo, smiling. I'm good for a crying shoulder and not looking while you're at it. At his words, Tiffany burst into tears and started crying loudly against his shoulder. She lost it when she remembered all those times Jin had ignored her for the past week and teared up even more. Bo didn't say anything or look down at her. He simply stared ahead and waited for her to finish. Sometimes, Bo wanted to be like this with someone else for a change. He wanted to be the one heartbroken and letting it out. Unlike everyone else, he had to constantly fight against a dead person for Joyce and these handsome boys for Rin. He would always lose in both battles so there was no point in crying over it. Or so he thought. That evening, Bo drove Tiffany home. They didn't talk for the rest of the car ride. ************************************************** At the hospital, Jin arrived with Jezebelle, Abe, and Parker to visit Tristan and his grandmother. Even though Jin knew it was none of his business, he thought that as Tristan's schoolmate, he should at least visit Tristan and his sick grandmother. While Abe and Parker went in to ask Tristan to come out to see Jin, Jin sat down on the couch in the lounge with Jezebelle. His girlfriend was busy watching a video on his PSP. Jin noticed a couple of Tristan's relatives sitting nearby. Who are you anyway? asked one of them to Jin. Jin lifted his eyes at an older girl with long, blonde hair. I'm Jin Song. I mean, said the girl in clarification. Who are you in relation to our family? I'm Tristan's friend, said Jin, receiving a short snort from Jezebelle next to him. Oh, said the girl with a roll of her eyes. One of those delinquents. Delinquent? asked Jin in repeat with a clueless expression on his face. Does he look like a delinquent to you? asked Jezebelle, keeping her eyes on the screen instead. The girl tossed Jezebelle a wary look. No, but you do. Thanks, darling, said Jezebelle, smirking beautifully. It's a lot more intimidating this way. Fi, said Jin in warning. We're not here to pick a fight. But I like fighting bitches, said Jezebelle, pouting. Who are you people? asked the girl, outraged. Why are you here? What a pleasant surprise, said Jezebelle, observing Tristan's relatives around her. You people are quite a sophisticated bunch. Who knew Tristan came from such a family? Tristan is not really part of this family, one of the older women said furiously. He's only here because Grandma favors him, said one of the Tristan's male cousins. Another female cousin with curly brown hair said, He should cut the nice boy act

already. How can someone who gets suspended from school all the time really care about Grandma? He's obviously in it for her money. I don't think that's the case, said Jin, stunned at their words. He's been absent from school for her sake so... He's using Grandma as an excuse to ditch school, said the same cousin. The blonde cousin giggled. That's so like him. Before Jin or Jezebelle could say anything, Parker came out to fetch them to come inside to see Tristan since Tristan didn't want to leave his grandmother's room. Jin agreed and followed Parker inside along with Jezebelle. As they left, Jin could feel Tristan's cousins narrowing their eyes at him. They were mocking him, but Jin paid them no heed as he turned a corner. Tristan is disliked by his family, said Jezebelle casually to Parker. It's always been like that, said Parker, shaking his head. The fuck with them. They remind me of elitists, said Jezebelle, shrugging. They are, said Parker in agreement. Jezebelle laughed to herself. No wonder they don't like Tristan. I don't get it, said Jin, interrupting them both. Parker frowned at Jin. What don't you understand, Jin Song? It doesn't matter who Tristan is, said Jin under his breath. Family is family. If you don't have your family to rely on, who can you rely on in times of need? About that, said Parker, clearly upset. I don't know what Tristan will do if his grandmother passes away, since the rest of his family won't accept him. They look down on him and some of them even hate Tristan's guts. Where will he go? Family members should help each other in times of need, said Jin, devastated. That is the real world for you, said Jezebelle, yawning. She was done with watching on his PSP now. It's not so pretty, is it? I'm thankful for my family more than ever, said Jin optimistically. Parker laughed at Jin's words. You really are something, Jin Song. Tristan will be happy to see you... even if he doesn't show it. Parker, said Jezebelle, stopping Parker from walking. Is that grandma of Tristan's important to him? She is, said Parker with a firm nod. She's the only family member he's got left. What about his parents? asked Jin worriedly. His parents abandoned him, said Parker sadly. Jin frowned. Everyone abandoned him. His grandmother is the only person he has left. She practically raised him for most of high school. He really loves his grandmother. There's no doubt about it. I never knew, said Jin in awe. Me neither, said Parker admittedly. I only knew about him living with his grandmother. I didn't know the rest of this shit until recently. How is his grandmother's condition? asked Jin quickly. I'm not sure, said Parker, continuing their walk. To be honest, I don't think Tristan knows himself. Jezebelle lifted a brow. He's in denial? Yeah. That's about right. What does that mean exactly? asked Jin to Jezebelle. In other words, he doesn't want to know exactly how sick his grandma is, said Jezebelle in a solemn tone. It's a natural defense mechanism. If you pretend everything is perfectly fine, you don't have to worry and get hurt.

Wouldn't it be more devastating in the long run though? asked Jin carefully. Without batting an eyelash, Jezebelle answered, Yes. Arriving in front of Mrs. Tailor's room, Jin greeted Abe, who was sitting in the provided chair. Abe smiled brightly and greeted Jin back. Apathetic, Jezebelle sat down next to Abe and checked her cell phone for the time being. Parker left in a hurry to go to the restroom. Curious, Jin looked inside to see that Tristan was sitting by his grandmother's side. Jin thought it was better to wait for Tristan to come out by himself. After fifteen minutes, Tristan left the room, only to notice Abe, Jezebelle, Jin, and Parker sitting in that order next to the door. Tristan especially paid attention to Jin. When Parker and Abe told him earlier that Jin was here to see him, Tristan thought they were making the story up so he gave a weak response. Tristan had no idea that Jin would actually be here to see him. Why? Tristan wasn't related to Jin in any way. They weren't even friends. Why would Jin take time out of his life to see him and his grandmother? Guys, said Tristan, addressing Abe and Parker. Give us a minute here, will you? Obediently, Abe and Parker went back to the lounge. Jezebelle thought it was best for Tristan and Jin to talk alone. Even though she wanted to know what they were talking about, it seemed like Tristan was not going to say anything with her around. Jezebelle thought it was best if she just asked Jin later for the details. Like she expected, after she left, Tristan sat two seats away from Jin and stared at the ground. Tristan clasped his hands together. Are you here to fucking mock me? Stunned, Jin gasped, No! Are you here to check out my shitty family drama? Of course not! Glaring, Tristan said, Why are you here, then, Jin Song? What's your reason for being here all of a sudden? It's because you haven't been to school in a long time, said Jin under his breath. That's it? asked Tristan in disbelief. No, said Jin honestly, scratching the back of his head. I heard about your grandmother's incident too. I thought I would pay her a visit and, Jin sighed. See how you're doing in the meantime. Is this some kind of charitable kindness? asked Tristan, standing up. If it is, I don't want it. You may go home now. May I at least greet your grandmother before I leave? asked Jin, frowning. Tristan hesitated, but at last, he said, Only for a second. I understand. Only a second, you got it? asked Tristan, hardening his eyes at Jin. I know, said Jin with a gentle smile. After Jin went inside, Tristan sat back down on his seat and buried his head in his hands. Even in his wildest dreams, he couldn't believe that Jin of all people would be with him during this hard time. After all, Jin and he were never that close. Tristan actually hadn't treated Jin well. Yet, now of all times, Jin had shown such kindness. He had wanted to visit Tristan's grandmother out of his own free will. Words alone couldn't describe how Tristan felt toward Jin at that moment. I know your grandmother's dying but, said Jezebelle, returning and sitting down next to Tristan. There are other important matters to discuss. Nothing is important anymore, said Tristan, glancing in Jezebelle's direction. Jezebelle smirked and said slowly, What about... football? ****************************************************

Like Jordan expected, when he received his practice exam from Rin after their tutoring session, he sighed at his large, red eighty percent in the upper right hand corner. While he took the exam, he knew he wasn't going to get all the questions right. But somehow, he hoped to see a different score on his paper. Tired, Jordan corrected his mistakes one by one and even double-checked them to make sure. Maybe if he was persuasive enough, Rin would give in to him only having a hundred percent after corrections on the same test. Jordan laughed out loud. As if. Ri-chan, said Jordan, turning around on her rolling chair and holding up the paper. I'm done! And they're all right this time I swear! Jordan nearly dropped his paper when he saw Rin sleeping with her blanket over her head from neck up. This was unusual. Usually, she would have the blanket all wrapped up around her midriff. Curious, Jordan got off the chair and crouched in front of Rin. He pulled the blanket up slightly and poked his head inside. Rin was indeed asleep. She was actually purring to herself. This is the perfect opportunity, thought Jordan to himself, lifting the blanket over both their heads. He fixated his stare on Rin's chest. Jin would be ashamed of me right now. Ri-chan will destroy me if she finds out, but I'm too curious. I bumped into Ri-chan's chest once, but that's about it. I must know for myself. Holding a shaking hand up to her chest, Jordan gulped. He was too afraid. What if Rin woke up to catch him in the act? At the thought of that, Jordan elevated his hand and petted her head instead. Rin smiled in her sleep after he began petting her head. Jordan sighed. She was more like a cat than a dog now that he had been with her for this long. Maybe he shouldn't try anything. Was it wrong to do that kind of things to a pet? Wait. Rin had been elevated from pet to girlfriend now. Whatever. Jordan glared at his own hand and lowered it again. This was his only chance. Without hesitating this time, Jordan quickly touched Rin's chest and said in disappointment out loud a few seconds later, She's wearing a thick bra! Damn her. She saw it coming from a mile away. My head... Jordan tried his best to act normal at the sight of her waking up. Yes Ri-chan? I had a dream, said Rin sleepily. What did you dream about? I dreamed about, said Rin, frowning. About Kristian and Jezebelle going on a date at some random mall. Jordan was speechless. Weird. I was there too, said Rin, continuing in a weak voice. Kristian knew I was watching, but he kept touching, Jordan flinched. And whispering to Jezebelle with that smirk of his. Wow... Do you think the dream means anything? asked Rin warily. It's only a dream, said Jordan, patting her hand. They don't mean anything. You're right, said Rin, smiling sweetly. It's only a dream. Because if they mean anything, my dream about us that one time- Rin sat up straight now. Jordan, about that dream. Jordan blushed. I'm not describing it to you out loud. Please, said Rin, pouting. I don't want to hear it. I already know what a gutter brain you have. You're probably thinking of sex right now while talking to me. You're not going to deny it, are you?

Jordan glanced away. Maybe. Men, said Rin, wrapping her arms in front of her chest. Anyways, do you know exactly when you had that dream? What for? I want to know how many days you had that dream before Kristian and I broke up. Jordan shook his head. I have no idea. I can't remember that far back. It can't be too long ago, said Rin insistently. You already moved in by then. Not consistently. I moved back and forth many times. Forget it, said Rin, sighing. It's no use trying to figure things out in real life based on a random dream I had. I agree. Rin indicated at the blankets on the floor. When are you moving out, Jordan? Oh, said Jordan, remembering. I'll find a place soon. I'm not rushing you or anything- I know. -but I feel uncomfortable with us sleeping in the same room for too long. At Rin's words, Jordan perked up. Why? I don't know! said Rin, frustrated. It's too weird. I'll tell you why, said Jordan, heaving himself on top of the bed effortlessly. Rin backed away as Jordan cornered her on top of her own bed. It's thanks to my remarks recently, isn't it? What remarks? asked Rin, acting innocent. The crude ones, said Jordan under his breath. You're just being a horny teenage boy, said Rin simply. Jordan laughed. It's not as simple as that. You shouldn't get too close, said Rin in warning. Smiling, Jordan did the complete opposite. Rin was literally against the wall now, staring up at him. Jordan lowered his head to match her height. Rin blushed and glanced away, holding her hands against his chest to keep him at a fair distance. "Why not?" asked Jordan curiously. Rin kept her eyes away from him. "I don't like it." "You're denying your own feelings again." "What feelings? I don't have feelings for you." Jordan lifted a brow. "But you're attracted to me." "Definitely not!" "You are," said Jordan insistently, moving Rin's hands away so he could move up closer to her. "You haven't noticed all this time because one, I've been bullying you way too much and two, you've been with Kristian. You can't be attracted to another boy when you're with your boyfriend, can you?" "Jordan," said Rin, glaring, "Don't make me hit you." "Go ahead," said Jordan, placing his hands on either side of Rin's head. "I'm going to finish my point no matter what." "What..." "But Kristian's out of the picture now," said Jordan, smirking. "You can freely express how much you're attracted to me." Rin rolled her eyes. "I am pretty good-looking if I do say so myself." "Jordan, what is the matter with you?" asked Rin, pushing Jordan away with all her effort with no avail. "Why are you acting like this? This is not what best friends are

supposed to do." "We're dating now." "But we're really only best friends." "So?" asked Jordan, holding Rin against the wall by the shoulders. "Who says best friends can't do this and that to each other?" Rin was mad now and pushed Jordan. "Enough Jordan!" "Got you," said Jordan, beaming. Out of the blue, Jordan pinched Rin's nose and backed off. He shook his head and lay down on his his stomach. Rin blushed and realized what he did. Crying out loud, Rin sat next to Jordan's body and started punching his back. Jordan begged for mercy, but Rin continued until she was done. At last, Jordan rolled over and pulled her down onto his chest. Rin blinked, unable to move. "Sorry about that," said Jordan, laughing. "I was trying to be like Kristian." "Why?" asked Rin, listening to Jordan's heart beat. "I thought it would turn you on." "You're awful." "Did it?" "No," said Rin, grouchy. "I'm never turned on." "Right," said Jordan, sitting up straight now. Rin sat up as well. "It's true," said Rin, pouting and glancing away. Jordan noticed how red she was. "It's really true!" "Okay. I believe you." "No, you don't!" "Moving on," said Jordan, clasping his hands together and under his chin. "How did I do?" "You talked too much," said Rin, sighing. "Kristian would have kissed me already." "Kiss Ri-chan early," said Jordan, nodding. "Noted." "Hey!" "What?" Cooling down, Rin muttered, "Seriously though... you shouldn't be like him... not even as a joke." "Oh, sorry." "It's not that I'm hurt or anything," said Rin defensively. "It's that you are so much better just being yourself." Jordan's eyes widened. "I know this sounds weird, but I like weepy Jordan." Jordan blushed and hid his face behind his arm. "I like Jordan going 'Richan, Ri-chan, help me'." "Stop it," said Jordan, flushing further. "It's embarrassing." "I feel like if it's you," said Rin, looking at the closed door. "I can be more honest with myself." "Like you are with Jin?" "Yes," said Rin with a firm nod, shifting her attention back to him. "I feel like if it's you, I can eventually move on. I can eventually get over Kristian and live a normal high school life." Jordan nodded. Rin beamed. "That's why from now on, let's just be ourselves and do our own thing in school." "What about asking your father about the food chain?" asked Jordan, remembering. "I thought about it," said Rin admittedly. "I don't know if I want to know. If something big happens in the future and there's a reason why we should get involved, I will ask him, then." Rin paused. "I hope the time will never come when I have to know the truth behind

everything." "Good point," said Jordan, nodding. "I want to be like the old days with JinRinBo, except only with Jordan and Rin?" Jordan smiled. "That's fine with me." "And Kristian," said Rin, lowering her eyes. "I'll keep him close to my heart. I won't forget all the times we've been through together. I won't forget all the good and bad memories we've made together. Most importantly, I won't forget this feeling whenever I'm with him. If there's a way we can start all over again, I'm more than willing too, but," Rin stared down at her hands on her lap. "Not now. This Rin Hamada is not ready for him yet." "He's not ready either," said Jordan quickly. "Yes. I know." "So," said Jordan, smiling teasingly at her. "I don't need to protect you from seeing him with other girls." Rin scowled. "I never needed your protection in the first place!" "I'm not going to argue with you, Ri-chan," said Jordan, laughing. "But it is painful," said Rin admittedly. "To see him so normal without me in his life." Rin laughed bitterly. "It's so sad. All I can think about is him when he doesn't even think about me at all." Rin breathed in deeply. "But watching him now, I realize that I'm just the twelfth girlfriend to him. I'm nothing more than just one-twelfth of his love life." Rin held her hands to her heart. "Yet, to me, he is my first. I can't forget or ignore it so easily. It's so pitiful, isn't it, Jordan?" Jordan held his hand against the side of her head. "It's not, Ri-chan. Me wanting to die is pitiful." "You're not having those thoughts again, are you?" asked Rin warningly. "No," said Jordan assertively. "Until the day you find someone you can love and be with, I won't leave you." Rin blushed and lowered her eyes. "Don't say such embarrassing things." "Hiding your true thoughts and feelings are more embarrassing." "I know," said Rin, sighing. She grabbed Jordan's hand and lowered it. She clasped it with both her hands. "That's why if it's you, I feel like I can do anything. I can protect you. I can protect myself. I can say and do things I haven't been able to before." Jordan held her hands and stared at them. "You're so tiny." "Hey! Why are you insulting me?" "It's not an insult," said Jordan, kissing her forehead. "I feel like I can snuggle you all day, like a new-born puppy." "I'm not your puppy," said Rin, hissing. "We're not in tutoring mode," said Jordan in reminder. "You are my puppy." "You're a horrible master, then," said Rin at last. "What? When?" Rin pouted. "Masters shouldn't French their pets." "Hey, that's not fair," said Jordan, annoyed. "We did that in front of my car. We're not in that type of relationship outside of this house." "Hey Jo-kun." "Oh no. You're using that nickname." Rin sat up her knees to match his height. "You'll help me get over Kristian, right?" "Of course," said Jordan, surprised Rin would ask a question. "Or at least, this pain you're going through because of him right now." Touched, Rin realized that like Jin, Jordan knew exactly what to say at the right

time. He was improving so much in math. He was growing so fast as a person too. He really was like the ultimate best friend. He had no feelings for her so things weren't awkward between them. He listened to her and gave her advice like a counselor. He made her feel warm on the inside for good reasons. He had complete trust in her since she was the only one he had left. For example, starting from Sunday, she checked both her e-mail and his. She could tell him everything. And unlike Jin, Rin was indeed attracted to his puppy-like personality and good looks. Rin leaned up and kissed Jordan quickly, "Thank you, Master." Surprised at first, Jordan deepened the kiss and muttered at the end of it, "No, Richan, you're wrong." Jordan placed her down gently with him on top of her. "Masters aren't supposed to kiss their pets." With wide eyes, Rin felt a familiar feeling through her body. "Oh! Jordan!" Smirking, Jordan said, "You're such a liar, Miss. I'm-Never-Turned-On." Going upstairs, Ms. Hamada told Mr. Hamada that before they left on their date, she wanted to make sure to give Rin enough money to order dinner for the night. Ms. Hamada was about to push open the door to Rin's room when she heard something. Ms. Hamada decided against bothering Rin and went back downstairs instead. "That was fast," said Mr. Hamada, observing his wife. Ms. Hamada smiled sweetly at Mr. Hamada. "She's not hungry." "Wait a second," said Mr. Hamada, lifting a brow at her. "Where's that Jordan boy?" "I don't know," said Ms. Hamada, pushing her husband out of the house. "Let's hurry, Ren. I don't want to be late and lose our reservations." "You're right," said Mr. Hamada outside of the house. The two of them returned to the black car. "I shouldn't worry. That boy already knocked her up and stole her from Mel's kid. What else can he do to her?" Innocently, Ms. Hamada replied, "You're right, dear. You're always right." *************************************************** After a quick conversation with Tristan's grandmother, Jin liked the older woman already. She was so full of life that Jin had a hard time believing that she had to be confided in this tiny room in this hospital in the first place. Jin chatted with her about random current news about the White House and game prices when a couple of her grandchildren burst inside with Tristan trying to hold them back. Why can a complete stranger visit Grandma and we can't? Get out, said Tristan, losing his temper. You get out, Tristan. You're not part of the family! Tristan curled his right hand into a fist and punched into the palm of his left hand. Get the fuck out of here. Scared of Tristan, his cousins retreated in a hurry. Jin blinked. Tristan's relationship with the rest of his family was worse than Jin imagined them to be. Jin frowned. He hated getting himself into people's personal lives. It was different if this was in school and it had to do with Tristan's school life, but... It's hilarious, said Tristan's grandmother out loud, gaining both their attention. She had a weak smile on her face. No one visits you when you're healthy, but when you're here, they swarm around you and say such sweet words. Gramps! What the hell are you babbling about now? The old woman faked a laugh. Maybe it's best if I stay here for the rest of my life. Gramps?

That way, said his grandmother under her breath. I get to see everyone. Fuck this, said Tristan angrily, running out of the room. Fuck this shit. Jin bowed quickly to the elderly woman before he ran out as well. Tristan! After the two boys left, Jezebelle safely snuck in the room and closed the door behind her. Jezebelle replaced Jin in the exact same spot and greeted Tristan's grandmother quickly. The older woman smiled gently at Jezebelle and asked for her identity. Jezebelle hesitated at first but answered her. I'm that Korean boy's girlfriend, said Jezebelle darkly. He's a nice boy. Too nice. Tristan's grandmother observed Jezebelle's face quickly. You're a really strong girl, aren't you? I can tell. Jezebelle didn't say anything. She lowered her eyes. But you're probably so strong that you do everything on your own and keep everything to yourself. Jezebelle giggled evilly to herself. Why do you say that? Us old folks have been through it all. You're right, said Jezebelle, continuing to laugh. But it's all good. How so? I'm just a girl who gets bored very easily, said Jezebelle in a solemn voice. Tristan's grandmother watched her face carefully. Why did it look so sad? You know what the world is full of? People who think they're going through shit. People who believe they can't control their own lives and blame other people for it. Jezebelle released a high-pitch laugh. These people are so helpless. So pathetic. Tristan's grandmother frowned. What a strange girl you are. I am strange, said Jezebelle in agreement. Before this year, my father had complete control over my personal life. I had no freedom. I had no power. At least, outside of school. Jezebelle smirked and played with her strands of blonde hair. But now that he's gone, I have regained my freedom. I have complete control over my life. I feel powerful and significant. I've always thought this is what I wanted and that I'll stay happy forever, but then, Jezebelle shook her head. I became bored again. It's so boring now that I can do whatever I want with my life. That's why, Jezebelle sat back in her seat with a gleeful expression. It's funner to control other people's lives too. Tristan's grandmother laughed. But dear- What? -what if you become bored with that too? asked the elderly lady with a tender smile. She held Jezebelle's hands in her own. Who will be the one left waiting for you? Jezebelle was silent for a very long time at the question. She didn't say anything for so long that soon, Tristan's grandmother went back to sleep. Staring at the old woman's peaceful sleeping face, Jezebelle felt bitter for some reason. She released her hands and stood up, ready to leave. No one, thought Jezebelle to herself. No one will be waiting for me because... I don't need anyone. ***************************************************** Finding it awkward to go out and eat alone, Jordan and Rin were sitting across from Sherry and Sidney. Out of all the female friends Rin had on her phone with boyfriends, she could only really call Sherry, Roselle, or Lydia. Lydia was out of the question because one, she was going through a rough time with Eddie, and two, Eddie and Jordan hated each other. Roselle was also out of the question because one, she was Jordan's ex-girlfriend, and two, she preferred typing at home and talking to Grim online over being here with them.

The only person left was Sherry. Thankfully, Sherry was more than excited to go on a double-date with Jordan and Rin on a school night. She needed more reasons to procrastinate. "Stan will be visiting Wilson High during Thanksgiving week," said Sherry, poking her spaghetti. Jordan grinned. "That's great. I can't wait to see Stan again." "Me too!" said Rin excitedly. "Why are you so happy?" asked Jordan curiously. "Boy love," said Rin in pure bliss. "With who?" asked Jordan, feeling awkward. "Bo," said Sidney automatically. He breaking off slices of his pizza. "They're best friends." "Bo..." said Jordan, groaning on the inside. "So that's where he gets it from..." "Stan's not really gay though," said Sherry protectively. "With Bo, he'll make an exception," said Sidney to Sherry. Sherry shook her head frantically. "My brother is not gay, Sidney!" "I'm joking," said Sidney, amused. "You have to tell me when he's coming over exactly so I can go into hiding." "Why?" asked Rin, confused. "Stan doesn't want Sidney and I to be together," said Sherry, shrugging. "He prefers me with Eugene." "Stan never really liked me," said Sidney, sighing. "I'm used to it though. It's always 'Bo this' and 'Bo that' with him anyways. It makes the rest of us feel so left out." "Just like how President Arav is always 'Rin Hamada this' and 'Rin Hamada that'," said Sherry with a giggle. She tossed Jordan a look. "You're not jealous, are you, Jordan Greene?" "I don't mind," said Jordan automatically. "Oh?" asked Sherry, interested. "She can talk to whoever she wants," said Jordan, returning his attention to his pasta. Arav doesn't like me like that, said Rin insistently anyways. Sherry tilted her head. "It's only been a week and look at that trust." Sherry glanced to Sidney. "It's like us, huh?" Sidney beamed at Sherry. "Y-Yeah." "It's nice," said Sherry, returning her attention to Rin. "Have you seen Sidney lately? He's been so helpful to the new freshman girls on the science team. I can't wait for our long meeting after school on Friday." Sherry patted Sidney on the back. "I'm proud of you, Sidney." "It's what I do," said Sidney, keeping his eyes on his plate. Jordan noticed how Sidney avoided Sherry's eyes and grabbed a hold of Rin's arm under the table. "I want to show Ri-chan something." "Go ahead," said Sherry, picking up her fork. "Sidney and I haven't talked in a while too. You two take as much time as you want." Right after Jordan dragged Rin by the arm to the far end of the room in front of the restrooms, Jordan said, "I'm not saying we should get involved, but have you noticed that your friends are acting really distant to one another? I thought you told me they're really close." "They are," said Rin in exclamation. "Or at least, were." "They're probably in the middle of a fight."

"No," said Rin, gaping. "They're not." "How do you know that for sure?" "Because I know Sherry," said Rin, frowning. "She doesn't take fights very well. She's been normal lately." "Interesting," said Jordan, thinking. "They're not in an open relationship?" "No!" Jordan blinked. "One of them is having an affair." "What?" "I'm sure of it," said Jordan in lowered tones. "Stop joking around," said Rin, exasperated. "It's Sidney and Sherry. They love each other." "People don't always have affairs because they stop loving their partner." "Jordan, that's just silly." Jordan glared at Rin. "Did you stop loving Kristian, then?" With wide eyes, Rin felt defeated and sighed, "It's not Sherry. I know Sherry. She'd never do such a thing." I'm not going to comment on that, said Jordan, knowing Rin too well. Rin's face darkened at the thought. But you do know what this means though. This is horrible, said Rin, feeling down. They're so perfect together... What are you going to do now? Shouldn't we tell them? Jordan laughed and ruffled her hair. My oblivious Ri-chan. Listen, here, Jordan, said Rin, glaring. If one of them is being unfaithful, shouldn't we say something? It's not our place to say, said Jordan quickly. Do you like it when the school butts into your love life? No, said Rin, defeated. Then, she jerked back up. What love life? The point still stands. But- And wouldn't it mess up that science team of yours? Rin thought about it and muttered, Yes... it would. Then? I'm eating my pasta, said Rin, heading back to the table. For the rest of dinner, Rin watched her two friends from science team interact with one another silently. Jordan acted perfectly normal by conversing with them on everything. Rin glanced at Jordan several times. He was used to things like this. After all, he was the boy who managed to hide his real self for the past two years until he opened up to Jin. In addition, Jordan was a natural social butterfly. On the other hand, Rin was at a loss with what to do. She was torn. She wanted to tell Sherry, but at the same time, she had no proof and the whole affair might hurt both Sherry and the team. I'm sorry, said Jordan, standing up abruptly. Rin picked her eyes up at him. But Richan is not feeling well so please excuse us for leaving. He noticed, thought Rin, blinking. Oh, said Sherry, gasping. Are you all right, Rin Hamada? You didn't catch a cold, did you? asked Sidney worriedly. I'm fine, said Rin, trying hard to smile. I'm tired from band practice and tutoring. Plus, I haven't even touched my homework and books yet. That's not good, said Sherry, frowning. You're not a procrastinator like me.

You better go home and sleep early, Rin Hamada, said Sidney in a friendly manner. Rin nodded. Thanks. See you both tomorrow. Later. Here, said Jordan, helping Rin up. She nearly staggered into his arms. Jordan smiled down at her and wrapped his arms around her waist. Come on. Let's go home. Wait! Jordan! Hearing Rin's outburst, Sherry and Sidney turned toward the front door where Jordan carried Rin over his shoulder. Rin met Sherry's eyes. Sherry recovered from the shock and waved at Rin. Groaning, Rin waved back, almost too limply. Rin felt so guilty. In the end, she couldn't bring herself to tell Sherry about what she suspected of Sidney. How could she? She was no better than Sidney herself. Once they were out in the parking lot, Rin and Jordan walked toward his car, hand in hand. Rin felt her heart beating rapidly at the thought of Sidney cheating on Sherry. Her dear friend Sherry. They had been friends since freshman year when they both joined the science team. It had been so long. Did I do the right thing? asked Rin out loud. There really isn't a right or wrong decision, said Jordan, staring ahead. Rin elevated her eyes at Jordan. What would you have done? I would have talked to Sidney first, said Jordan calmly. But I'm a boy so it's different. Then, depending on his answer, I will either stay out of it or talk to Sherry next. Jordan stopped and sighed. You see, Ri-chan, these things will come out eventually. They always do. Rin's eyes widened. The hard part is whether to side with one person or neither. You can't side with both, though you can listen to both. We said it before, didn't we? asked Rin miserably. It takes two for an affair to happen. I wonder who the third person is, said Jordan before he stopped himself and shook his head. It's really none of my business. I'm so torn, said Rin, shaking. Didn't we just agreed on a normal high school life? Jordan nodded. If I get involved with Sherry and Sidney, I'll be dragged back to all that drama again. But... if I know about it and don't do anything, I'm a horrible friend to Sherry. Life is full of decisions like this. Yes, said Rin, breathing in deeply. I know this is going to be odd of me to say, but, said Jordan, walking again. Since he was holding Rin's hand, Rin followed next to him. If Sherry is too blind to see that Sidney is cheating on her own, maybe it's best to leave it be. Jordan! said Rin in disbelief. Sometimes, there are certain things better left alone. The whole relationship will be a lie, said Rin with wide eyes. I think it's because I'm a guy that I can sort of understand where Sidney is coming from, said Jordan softly, stopping by their car. There's a chance that he made a mistake. A reckless mistake that he might be regretting for the reset of his life. Rin frowned. Isn't that punishment enough? I believe it's only really wrong to hide an affair when it will hurt either party. Sherry seems fine. Sidney seems fine. We shouldn't be meddlesome. They're distant from each other, said Rin solemnly. That's not fine. So, you're saying we should tell Sherry about our suspicions and have her distance herself even further from him? Rin hid her head against Jordan's stomach. I hate this. I hate being unable to decide what to do.

This is high school drama for you, Ri-chan, said Jordan, rubbing Rin on the head. And I used to be part of it all too. Jordan sighed. Not as much as I. I'm not going to think about this anymore, said Rin, opening the door to her seat. I'm starting to sound and think like an Asian Gossip Girl, which is not a good idea. Chuckling at her words, Jordan hurried to his seat and drove them home. In the car, Rin warned him that she would be using the rest of the evening to read her books and study for school ahead of time. Jordan said he didn't mind one bit since he had to type up his assignment for history anyways. By the end of this conversation, right when Jordan parked in front of Rin's house, Rin thought of something. If you want, said Rin shyly. You can sleep on my bed from now on. Seriously? It has been a lot colder lately, said Rin, sighing. Jordan beamed, knowing this was her way of speaking. It's better if you sleep on my bed until you move out. Do you want to continue where we left off later tonight? Rin blushed and said, It's a school night, Jordan. The weekend, then. Jordan! You're not supposed to make decisions by yourself! Jordan climbed out of the car and said, But no, it's okay. I don't want to share a bed with you, Ri-chan. Jordan looked up at the dark sky. It's too unsafe and uncomfortable for me right now. I don't think I'll be able to sleep with that arrangement, and I need sleep. Rin lifted a brow and also got out of the car. I don't understand, but suit yourself. It's not my loss. It's okay, said Jordan softly. I'll wait until this weekend. Jordan? Jordan grabbed her hand and dragged her behind him. Let's go inside. Tomorrow will be a long school day for the two of us. ***************************************************** Instead of driving home, Jin parked the car in the middle of a dark neighborhood. Jezebelle growled and refused to leave the car until they arrived home. Laughing, Jin insisted that he drive her here to make up for his behavior the last week. At the thought of a mochi ice cream shop, Jezebelle gasped and immediately joined Jin on his walk down the deserted street. Jezebelle scowled at the sight of an elementary school instead. It's my old elementary school, said Jin, glancing over his shoulder at Jezebelle. I remember it being on the way home from the hospital so I thought I'd stopped by. Why can't you do that without dragging me along? asked Jezebelle, annoyed. Because I want to be with you. Jezebelle rolled her eyes. I don't have time for your games, Jin. Come on, Fi, said Jin sweetly, urging her on. It'll only take ten minutes. Fine. Ten minutes. Since the gate was closed and locked, Jin had to help Jezebelle climb over the fence to unlock the gate from the inside. Jezebelle was pleasantly surprised that Jin would pull off a stunt like this. However, judging by his face, he really wanted to be here. Once she opened the gate for him, Jin thanked her and led her inside, leading the way. Rin-chan and I ate lunch here every day, said Jin, sitting down on a bench in the outdoor cafeteria. Jezebelle sat opposite of him and looked around her. Let me guess. You made your own lunch every morning.

How did you guess? asked Jin, gasping. Obviously, you're such a good boy. Jin blushed and said, It was only sandwiches... Did you take the bus home and walk home by yourself too? Nodding, Jin said, Wow, Fi, you're good. I know you way too well, said Jezebelle, standing up with a bored expression on her face. It's kind of pathetic. Jin laughed at her. Jezebelle pouted and pointed ahead. Show me your classroom. I want to see if they keep an ugly picture of you somewhere. Really? asked Jin excitedly, getting up and leading the way again. Is it because Fi cares and wants to see how I look like back in fifth grade? No, said Jezebelle, irritated. I just want a laugh. That's good too, I guess, said Jin, disappointed. Laughing is good for you. After Jin showed Jezebelle both his fifth grade classroom and the playground, they sat next to each other at a handball court, against the wall. Jin watched Jezebelle lovingly, noticing how thoughtful she looked right then under the moonlight. Without warning, Jezebelle glanced in Jin's direction and caught him staring at her. Jin blushed and glanced away out of embarrassment. How did it go with Tristan? asked Jezebelle softly. Fine, said Jin with a nod. He's going to be okay. Will he be going back to school tomorrow? Jin shook his head. He doesn't want to. He says he might return by Friday, though. Are you friends with Tristan now? asked Jezebelle, interested. We talked like friends so I guess we are friends? Jezebelle placed her elbow on Jin's shoulder and moved in closer to him with a playful expression on her face. That's great. You're always good at this kind of stuff. Er, I guess so. Why did you bring me here? asked Jezebelle, switching over to her serious tone. Jin thought about it. Well... neither of us had a childhood so... You'll think this is more romantic than the movies or the beach or something? Something like that, said Jin honestly. Also, we haven't been alone together for a while now. I mean I blanked on most of what happened last week. Jezebelle feigned sadness. I know... you were so mean to me... I was? cried Jin, shocked. You refused to wash my underwear, said Jezebelle, wrapping her arms in front of her chest. Oh, I'm so sorry, Fi, said Jin, looking down. I'll do the laundry today, for sure. You also did something terrible to me, said Jezebelle, pouting. Jin's eyes widened, afraid to ask. What did I do? My pure maiden body, said Jezebelle, tugging onto the neckline of her shirt. What? cried Jin, gaping at Jezebelle. I don't remember anything! At the sight of Jin being dramatic and pulling his hair, Jezebelle burst out laughing. Jin calmed down and returned to his seat next to her. Jezebelle had to wrap her arms around her stomach like Wendy to stop from laughing. Jin had never seen her laugh this hard before. It surprised him. He thought he saw every side of her by now. You're so lame, said Jezebelle, holding back her laughter. You always fall for that stupid trick. So nothing happened? Jezebelle flung her hair back and laid her head against the wall. How can it? Even if

you're the other Jin, you can't just magically become stronger than me and force me down. I've been trained for a long time. I can't lose to the likes of you. Trained? asked Jin, confused. I had a personal trainer, said Jezebelle, shrugging. Father didn't want me to lose out to any man out there. That explains it... how you're able to beat all those guys up in the parking lot by yourself and rescue me... At the word 'by yourself', Jezebelle thought about what Tristan's grandmother said. Jezebelle bit her lip and half-listened to what Jin had to say. Instead, she thought back to her childhood when she had to learn about things other children didn't bother with. She had no friends and she was always by herself. Jezebelle had adjusted to that lifestyle though. But here, years later, when her father was no longer around, this person wanted to become that someone who would always be by her side no matter what. But that wasn't possible. Not for someone like her. Jin, said Jezebelle, gaining his attention with how low her voice was. I'm bored. Do you want to go somewhere else or do something else here? Jezebelle smirked. No, Jin, I'm bored, Jezebelle gazed intently at him, of you. Huh? Nothing. I'm just really bored, said Jezebelle, smiling weakly. She wrapped her arms around his neck and held him. Jin was so confused that he didn't know how to react. Everyone's so boring, Jin. Nothing exciting is happening unless I make it happen. Jin blinked and petted Jezebelle on the head. It's okay. I hate being bored. I know, said Jin under his breath. That's why, said Jezebelle, picking her head from his shoulder and staring at him in amusement. Wouldn't it be more interesting if I stay away from you for a while? Fi? asked Jin, gawking. I actually did live in a pretty nice house before, said Jezebelle, helping herself up to her feet. I still have my house keys. I can return there and live by myself for now. Wait, said Jin, staggering up and stopping Jezebelle from walking away. Fi! Without looking at Jin, Jezebelle said, Remember the first week of school? You grabbed my arm in front of the school and said that you would stay by my side forever until my father come back to pick me up? Yes... Jezebelle laughed to herself and walked faster toward the gate. You can't keep that promise and I don't need you to. Following Jezebelle, Jin shouted, Why? I meant every word of it. Because, said Jezebelle, turning her head back to face Jin. I don't need you anymore. I never did. Jezebelle faced forward again, not daring to see the hurt expression on Jin's face. I just didn't accept that fact until today. By the time Jin fully grasped what Jezebelle meant, Jezebelle was already gone. Jin tried calling her, but she had already turned her phone off. Jin didn't know what to do. Should he search for her mindlessly? Should he ask his parents where she used to live? How was she getting home? How did she disappear from him in a matter of seconds? Jin ran back to his car to check. She wasn't there either. That night, it began to rain. Despite what he said earlier, Jordan gave in and slept with Rin, who curled into a ball against his chest. Bo went inside his sister's room and kept her company. Vance typed on the computer and watched the raindrops throughout the

night. Tiffany grabbed extra blankets and slept soundly underneath the multiple layers. Kristian checked up on Jinx before he went to bed. Lastly, Jin was on top of Jezebelle's bed, wide awake, with Jezebelle junior in his arms.
