1. In your Web browser, go to http://www.ibm.com/software/data/support/ cognos_diagnostictools.html, select your product family on the tab, and click the IBM Cognos BI Content Manager Diagnostic link. 2. Download and extract the zip files. Note: You can install this tool to any location. If you are not installing the tool on the IBM Cognos server, you must define the connection to the server using the CM Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) in IBM Cognos Configuration. Logging on to the Content Manager size tool 1. Double-click IBMCognosBI_CMSize.exe. 2. If prompted, log on. Use the same credentials that you use to log on to IBM Cognos Connection. 3. Enter the namespace ID as indicated in the properties of IBM Cognos Configuration. Connecting to Content Manager 1. From the Window menu, click Preferences. 2. Enter the Content Manager URL. If you are connecting to the CM server remotely, use the server name or fully qualified server name as defined in IBM Cognos Configuration. 3. To test the Content Manager connection, click the Test CM Connection button. Querying object sizes You can query the Content Store to get the approximate size of various objects it contains. 1. On the Object Size tab, select a scope.
Scope Deployment Folder Other Description Returns the import/export deployments saved in the content store. Provides an option for you to manually enter a search path in the Search Path text box. For example, to find out size information for objects in the dept1 folder, in the public folder, choose Other in the Scope list and enter /content/folder[@name=dept1]/* in the text box. Depending on the number of objects in the content store, querying the Public Folders can take a long time and potentially lock the content store. Use this option after hours or use a more specific search path to break down the total amount of results. It is also a good practice to run the object count first to get an idea of how many different objects the content store contains.
Public Folders
2. Enter the maximum number of objects to retrieve in Max Objects. Adjust this value for optimal performance based on the response time from the content store. 3. Select the type of objects to query.
Objects Analysis, Query, Report, and ReportView Model Jobs Deployment Folder Retention Rules Description Returns the size of the object, its output objects, and its reportVersion objects. Returns the size of all versions of each package object. Returns the size of the history and jobStepDefinition object of each job. When the scope is set to Deployment Folder, the object defaults to Deployment. The tool returns history and deploymentDetail objects. Searches for retention rules that are set to a certain value. A value of 0 (zero) indicates that the retention rule is set to unlimited. A large number of history or output objects may be returned.
4. Click Send. When the results display, click Next to continue retrieving them. The Search Results pane displays the name of the object returned, the total number of each type of child objects for the items in the result page, the total size of each object item in the content store database, and the search path of each object in the result. Note: Only the size of the LOB property is calculated for each object. Depending on the type of the database, the size is either in bytes or characters. 5. To see more information about child objects for an item in the Search Results pane, select the item, and then click Drill Down. Querying object counts You can query the content store to get a count of the various objects it contains. The count query is faster than the size query. 1. On the Object Count tab, select a scope. The query result indicates count on all objects in the content store. 2. Enter a value in Display Object Count > = to return only counts larger than a specified number. 3. Click Send. In the Search Results pane, the count is given for each type of objects in the content store. Saving your results v Click the Save or Save As button to save your results to a comma separated values (CSV) file.
