For Nestlé Pakistan, milk is the core raw material for the production of UHT and powder milk and other milk based products. Ever since the company commenced operations inPakistan, it has been committed to improve the quality and volume of its raw milk tomeet quality standards of it products. Driven by this commitment and given thelimitations of quality of raw milk available in the market it opted for self-collection in1988. T o preserve the quality of raw milk in hot weather conditions in Punjab thecompany has made substantial investment in setting up an extensive cold chain byinstalling over 2200 chilling units all over the milk shed area. Nestlé Pakistan now operates the biggest milk collection system, the basic unit of whichis the village milk collection center (VMC) where farmers deliver milk, morning andevening. From over 3000 villages, milk is purchased, consolidated, chilled andtransported daily to factories in Sheikhupura and Kabirwala.
