When we distribute theGalveston Wizard, we do our very best to make sure thateach and every copy finds agood home. Someone who willread it and enjoy it and maybeeven pass it on for someoneelse to check out.For those of you who wereable to catch the first two is-sues,hangontoyourcollector’sitems! (looked at them lately?)We are working our darnd-est to create a comprehensiveWeb site for those who maymiss an issue. And we are test-flighting a subscription pack-age, in case you want a highlycollectible hard-copy.With each and every issue,we intend to provide a guide for Galvestonians in Galveston.Things to do you might havemissed, places you might havemissed, with a forum for Galve-stonians to put into words their feelings on their world or yours.Galveston is an eclectic anddiverse island, filled with oppor-tunity and possibility. Athousand condos selling aweek does not every stomachfill. (or problem solve)We must be certain that thecommunity as a whole is able togrowtogetherandcometogeth-er with that growth, as Galves-ton is an island on the cusp of insane growth and possibility.“But we’ve got “such-and-such problem,” or “we’ll never end“this-n-thatproblem”...whyor why not? We’re so quick to point outproblems that no one seems tobe looking for solutions to thoseproblems. We must better understandGalveston to make it work for us all.The Galveston Wizard in-tends to serve as a guide thrumany different aspects oGalveston, giving timid or learyreaders the opportunity to ex-plore other opinions, ideas, andworlds than their own, just byreading the Galveston Wizardcover to cover!Opinions found in this pe-riodical are just that. Shouldsomeone somewhere have adifferent opinion than one print-ed within these pages, feel freeto submit a counter opinion or observation for us to share. We will do our best to givecounter opinions or ideas equalweight. We leave you with the fol-lowing quote as you begin your  journey with the Galveston Wiz-ard... “
It takes a lot of brains toenjoy satire, humor and wit--butnone to be offended by them.

No need for lip service,
Thoughts from fellow Wizards!

It was dangerously close to Hal-loween. We thought it only natural tocelebrate the release of our second is-sue,
The Return of the Wizard,
with abang!Glynda and The Wizzard Bar (24th and Church Str) said they’d host theevent, as guests of the Wizzard are al-ways welcome! (Plus we liked their name. A “ZZ Top” Touch. Check em out!)We decided that fliers would bethe best way to reach Galvestonians re-garding the party. We printed up a stackof 100 fliers, with all of the information for the event and put them everywhere wethought you might be. (Special thanksto Morgan Studios on 3515 Broadwayfor the Donation towards the fliers.)It takes a lot of planning, moneyand time to put something together for your entertainment! If you don’t showup, party planners may one day say“Why Bother!” Support local events! We picked up some catering for the event from Di-Bella’s Italian Res-taurant (31st andP) and stopped bythe Strand The-atre to pick up tickets for the specialRocky Horror Picture Show, donatedby T.F. Hippie’s (24th and Mechanic) asprizes. Lucky patrons got T-Shirts, arm-bands, and the Jello Shots were all nightJiggling! Once we can encourage fun-seeking Galvestonians that the dreaded“cover charge” at an event means we’retrying to make a better event! (It gives usmore options for entertainment and fun!)If you missed it, then we missedyou! We appreciate all of the supportof you trend-setters that made it to theevent and we look forward to promotingand creating more events for you to en- joy! See you where the action is!Having an event of any kindyou’d like us to cover? Send us the info!thewiz@galvestonwizard.com

Wizard,My name is Charles McVey and Iwork at the WorkSource at 4700Broadway. An article was pub-lished in the latest copy of TheWizard talking about the servicesthat we provide to the communityin regards to job placement, andfinancial aid assistance to seek new skills, to fit into the demandof the growing work scene. Af-ter the latest copy was distributedit found its way into the hands of an old Galveston resident namedMichael Horton. Upon seeing thearticle in the Wizard, Michael de-cided to pay me a visit. While Iwas waiting on some of our dailycustomers, I heard someone say“I’m looking for Charles McVey.”I turned around and saw Michaelsface. He was quite surprised that Irecognized him immediately. Af-ter all it had been 40 years since Ilast saw himWe were both in the10th grade at Ball High School. Hecomplimented me on my remark-able memory. Quite a story if I dosay so myself. Just some of thethings that the publication entitled“The Galveston Wizard” has ac-complished.
Charles,Wow! We’re glad we could be of service. It pleases us to knowthat we are making a differencewith this publication! We hope toearn many more praise reports likethat from our community!
Galveston Wizard,You came in the other day andhanded out an edition of theGalveston Wizard: G’ Wiz. I gotaround to looking at it and I think it has some potential. It’s a fun readalthough a bit random and it’s greatthat you’re getting some good feed-back from your readers as seen inyour letters section.Keep it Going!-Mike
Mike,Thanks for the support! We’re glad to see you are enjoying it. What more can we do for you to make it more useful? Also, as to your “random”statement, those sure are pretty flowers....WAIT! We mean, we aregetting better and more organized every day. We appreciate your sup- port and patience as we grow withGalveston! Keep us posted as tohow else we might be of service!
Galveston Wizard,Here are a few real topics of dis-cussion for you.1. Why is Galveston So Dark? There are not enough streetlightsso rape, robbery, car theft and as-sault are still at highs?2.Why are there 2 Visitor’s Cen-ters and only 1 Salvation Army orany other free programs to recoverthese addicts? (We all know localbums by name.)3.What ever happended to kids go-ing somewhere like the Y.M.C.A.and acting like kids?4.What’s up with all the drama onthe island?5.What do you think about Galves-ton residents having to pay to geton East Beach?
Wow, we thought it best to passthese on for our readers to answer! Any thoughts?
