Our guest speakers were
BethGirshman, and Vickie Sciacca,
Librarians of the Moraga,Orinda and Lafayette Libraries who described the variouslibrary services in the Lamorinda area and Contra CostaCounty. The speakers outlined why public libraries havesuch an important role in society today,namely:
Economic value to business and professionalresearch and information.
Internet access for significant segments of thepopulation.
Serves as a trusted information source.
An important learning and growth source.
A valuable public gathering place for thecommunity, youth, and seniors.
An easy access to the knowledge of the world. The 26 Contra Costa County Libraries are highlyrecognized for nationwide excellence. The MoragaLibrary schedules about 150 special programs, childrenreading, book clubs, exhibit, guest speakers andperforming arts activities. Some interesting discussionrelated to the impact and availability of E-books andother digital uses. It was noted that even though there isa new demand for digital materials, there is still a veryhigh use for books and printed items. The Contra CostaCounty Library system focuses upon
to meet the unique populations, ages, and usedifferences of the several geographic areas. The finalmessage of the three librarians was to:

announced that 4 of the 11 teamssponsored by Moraga Rotary went to the State Tournament, and the one 8
grade team which went onto the World Tournament of 820 Teams at MichiganState Univ. placed 12 among their 55 competitors!

requested all those who have notsigned-up for working shifts to do so NOW!
Field Day Girls High Point Winner Sydney Roberts,
fourth grade student at Camino Pabl0was recognized as the top point winner among girls atthe 2013 Rotary Field Day. The perpetual plaque waspresented to her for display in her school. Sydney won 2gold and 1 silver medals. Congratulations!
