S PROGRAM
Our guest speakers were
Diane McDonnell,

BethGirshman, and Vickie Sciacca,
Librarians of the Moraga,Orinda and Lafayette Libraries who described the variouslibrary services in the Lamorinda area and Contra CostaCounty. The speakers outlined why public libraries havesuch an important role in society today, namely:
·
Economic value to business and professionalresearch and information.
·
Internet access for significant segments of thepopulation.
·
Serves as a trusted information source.
·
An important learning and growth source.
·
A valuable public gathering place for thecommunity, youth, and seniors.
·
An easy access to the knowledge of the world. The 26 Contra Costa County Libraries are highlyrecognized for nationwide excellence. The MoragaLibrary schedules about 150 special programs, childrenreading, book clubs, exhibit, guest speakers andperforming arts activities. Some interesting discussionrelated to the impact and availability of E-books andother digital uses. It was noted that even though there isa new demand for digital materials, there is still a veryhigh use for books and printed items. The Contra CostaCounty Library system focuses upon
communitylibraries
