Mr and Mrs Thompson lived with their two children Katie and Ronald in atoadstool at the back of George O’Reilly and his Grandson’s smallcottage. Mr and Mrs Thompson were pixies. They were not allowed to beseen by humans, as the belief was that they would die.Katie Thompson was different to all the other pixies, but nobodyknew why. Katie was very bright but very strange- or so her brotherRonald said.At daybreak one wet horrible day Katie left the toadstool. She flewright onto the roof of George’s small cottage. She listened through thechimney to hear what George’s grandson had to say. Nothing. No....nothing at all. So Katie flew right into the house and right into George’sGrandson’s room. She saw something that caught her eye; a book onpixies. ‘This book is completely false, we aren’t small’ she said standingup straight on her tiny tip-toes. ‘I happen to be the tallest in mytoadschool’, she remarked to the book. ‘And we don’t always have brownhair and blue eyes. My eyes are a crystal red, and my hair is simplyblack. And pixies don’t have powers... well no pixies except me.’Katie’s eyes lit up like two balls of sapphire. She became very stilland sang one high pitched note. She then faded away.The only things leftwere her bright sapphire eyes, then they faded too.Katie had a wonderful power which was that all she had to do washit that high-pitched note and she became invisible. Katie, althoughinvisible, was still in George’s grandson’s room. There was a suddensharp movement when the shadow of a hand slowly moved closer, theshadow became bigger and bigger until she saw him. A human lookeddirectly into her eyes. Her red eyes lit up again flaring brighter than youhave ever seen. Then, once again, she vanished into thin air. This was the end of Katie Thompson. She was never seen again.Her Mother and Father searched and searched but never found her.Katie is now somewhere very far away writing books on true pixies,and sometimes George’s grandson sees her shadow on his bedroom wall, just as she saw his.
