(maximum 200 words)
The current political drift indicates that Israel andthePalestinians are heading toward theunintendedconsequencesof either a one-state solution or a bi-national state. Bothsolutionswould prohibit Israel fromrealizing its dream ofnormalization and prohibit theachievement of a sustainable levelof security. For thePalestinians, eithersolution spellstheir furthersubjugation orexpulsion fromthe West Bankand GazaStrip.Rightorwrong, theUnited States suffersguilt by associationwithIsraeldue to its strong economic andmilitarysupportforIsrael. Thus, it is imperative to the achievement of US interests in the Middle East that theUnitedStates takes the lead in building an international coalitioncapableof imposing an immediate resolution to the problem. The only solution capableof satisfying the best interests of all parties concerned is a two-state solution.Theprevious step-by-step approaches to peace havefailed and the immediate recognition of the state of Palestineis imperative tofuturestability in theregion.
