(acronym from Russian) for Theory of Inventive Problem Solving – was founded in Russiaby the inventor, writer and independent scientist Genrikh Saulowitsch Altschuller (1926-1998).Today TRIZ is intensely spreading worldwide and is being used by many big companies, bysmaller and middle sized businesses and also by many researchers, engineers and teachers.Unlike many theories about creativity, TRIZ based on scientific principles and provides newpossibilities for solving complicated problems and for generating effective ideas (especially forengineering applications).The fundamental model of any problem is based on resolving conflict and contradiction betweenthe required properties and the existing properties.TRIZ contains exceptionally effective methods of problem (R&D, product, customer) solving.These methods were extracted from the thousands of real patents to get 40 primary models tosolve the contradictions with 76 "Standard model, Laws of System” development and manyothers to generate effective solutions.At the same time TRIZ supports the predominantly logical, or it is possible to say, the "scientific"thinking, which is close to the professional knowledge and which relates to the sphere of the"rational intellect" of man.The problems, which contain contradictions, and especially – acute contradictions, relate to theinventive problems that require creative solution.In the most general form the difficulties of the effective solution of problems are caused by threenegative factors:

- The absence of necessary professional knowledge "here-and-now",- Ignorance of the creative methods of creating effective ideas,- The absence of psychological readiness to the solution of problem.

However, the process of solution requires the integration of the methods of different directions inorder to overcome all three factors indicated above. Therefore the author (Dr. Orloff) developsTRIZ in the direction of the integrating the "rational intellect", relating to the left side of brainwith the "artistic" thinking, relating to the right side of the brain.This direction was named Modern TRIZ (contemporary TRIZ) or, further, MTRIZ.
