U.S. Senator Kit Bond

With the 111
th
Congress, the Senate Environment and PublicWorks Committee created a new Subcommittee on Green Jobs and theNew Economy. This subcommittee affords the opportunity to take adeeper look into the issue of green jobs, their benefits and costs. With this in mind, Ranking Member Kit Bond conducted a review of green job programs, experiences and examples. Expert opinion and conclusionsacross dozens of reports were reviewed. As the endnotes indicate, reports by green jobs advocates and supporters formed the overwhelmingmajority of material reviewed. Nevertheless, a mixed picture of green jobsefforts presented itself with massive taxpayer subsidies required to creategreen jobs and higher energy prices and lost existing jobs expected fromcurrent proposals to fund green jobs creation. All of this signals a yellowlight urging caution with green jobs.
