The Denver Post Ride The Rockies Bicycle Tour is revising the route for the sixth stage

of the 2013 tour due to issues brought on by the Royal Gorge Wildfire. The route for Friday, June 14th will begin in Salida and end in Caon City as originally planned; however the route has been altered to avoid the potential closing of US-50 again and to minimize stress on state resources. Ride The Rockies management has been in close contact with county officials, Caon City representatives, Colorado Department of Transportation as well as Colorado State Patrol regarding the wildfire and our best options. Albeit the alternate route is 33 miles longer than originally planned, cyclists will have bragging rights for completing the longest tour in our 28 year history while enjoying views that rival some recent days stages. Air Quality Advisory & Shuttle Plan As of Thursday, June 13th The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and Regional Air Quality Council issued an Action Day Advisory regarding the Royal Gorge Wildfire. Its advised that people with heart or lung disease, older adults and children should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion. The health and safety of our cyclists is our top priority. Should you be the least concerned about the air quality we invite you to take a RTR shuttle direct to Caon City. Bus departure times will be at 6:30AM, 8AM and 9AM (as space allows). The bus pick-up will be adjacent to outdoor camping. All bicycles will be transported separately, departing at 9AM. Shuttle and bike drop-off will be staged on the west side of the Caon City Middle School. Alternate Driving Directions for Private Support Vehicles *Its highly encouraged to use alternate driving directions to make the new route for cyclists as safe as possible.
