Description

Th is booklet grew out of a meeting organized by the Red VIDA in Cochabamba, Bolivia in August, 2008. The meeting, which is described in the second part of the booklet, focused largely on the just, equitable, and ecological provision of drinking water and sanitation services. We recognize that while this is a crucial focus, it is but one the many areas through which water flows. Throughout the Americas
and the world, movements are afoot to address many other issues related to water, such as agriculture, large dams, extractive industries, energy, climate change, resource rights, and indigenous sovereignty. While the interviews included here focus largely on the question of drinking water and sanitation, we hope to open windows onto the many other struggles around water, and the many ways in which water is a central element in the development of just, equitable, and sustainable societies.
