The town of Troyan
The town of Troyan is situated in North Bulgaria , 160 km north –east of
Sofia ( 400 m above sea – level ). It lies along the banks of the Beli Ossam
River , in the foothills of the Troyan –Kalofer part of the Balkan Mountains.
The name of Troyan originates from the ancient Roman road of Via Trajiana
, which linked the Danube with the Aegean in the 1-2 c. AD . Archeological
excavations show that this region had already been inhabited in the
Paleolith. During the bronze Age , a Tracians tribe inhabited the land along
the Azamus River 9 today Ossam River) . During the first half of the 19 c.
numerous crafts thrived in Troyan . The most prominent of them was
pottery making . In this way was founded the unique Troyan School of
Ceramics. For centuries ceramic craftsmen have been selling their goods
both in BG and in neighbouring countries . Troyan was officially announced
a town in 1868. Troyan was the third town of Buigaria to be supplied with
electricity ( in 1911 ) after Sofia and Plovdiv . At present Troyan has a
population of over 25 ,000 people , a well- developed infrastructure , a
number of industrial plants and numerous private companies . There are
lots of natural reserves in our region . They are part of the Central Balkan
National Park . The park is the habitation of some rare and endangered
plan – the edelweiss, Alpine rose , venerable beech fir and spruce forests ,
here you may meet the brown bear , golden eagle ,wild goat , wolf , red
deer , ural owl , wild boar. There are about 30 waterfalls of a height above
20 m in one of the reserve.
The history of “ Ivan Hadjiisky school “ in
Troyan -Bulgaria
The teacher Hristo Stranjev founded the first mutual school for
advanced students in 1868 in Troyan . When Ilia Belkovski
started as a teacher in 1870 / 71 .He developed the school into 7
classes . So a new school was built and the people called it ‘’
The Yellow school”.
After our Liberation of Ottomans Yoke, the educational system
fell and the Yellow school was burnt into fire in 1877 .
In 1881 the citizens of Troyan built a new school and in 1896 our
school “’Ivan Hadjiiski “ was opened with a donation of Hadjii
Kalcho Drensky .
In 1939 a dormitory was built in the yard of the school with a
donation of his son Konstantin Hadjii Kalchov . Those years the
students published their own newspaper the “The first steps” ,
they performed many plays .
Till 1944 the school was known under the name of Konstantin
Hadjii kalchov – the great donator of our country .Later it was
renamed ‘’ Ivan Hadjiiski “ -0ne of the great sociologist in our
country and a citizen of our town .
