Overview
The Pocket Log is a paper-based DIY logbook for diabetics. It isinsanely flexible, fits easily in a glucometer case and is a joy to use.It aims to give diabetics total flexibility in how they log by providinghinted guidance for chronological entries and maximizing space fornotes. The Pocket Log was released under a Creative CommonsLicense on February 1, 2009.
Paper is a Device
While there is significant focus on making diabetic devices more likemodern consumer electronics, paper should not be left behind. Penand paper are the most accessible tools to record all things D – meter readings, insulin, medications, food, exercise, random notes. There is nothing else that is more convenient and flexible. While pen and paper are fantastic tools, there are numerous issueswith the standard logbook typically bundled with a new meter. Withregard to design, there are problems with bulk, rigid logging formatsand insufficient space for entries or notes. Beyond the design, thepatient loses consistency when switching logbooks. Access to aconsistent format is inconvenient, either requiring the patient topurchase replacement logbooks or hope his endocrine team hassome of the same on hand. These problems deter consistent loggingwhich is a key component to good control of one’s diabetes.
No Right Way
There is no right way to use the Pocket Log. It is easy to locatewhere an entry should go. What that entry may be is entirely up tothe patient. It can be kept as a single sheet of paper or folded to go.To truly make it like a logbook, there is a special way to fold thePocket Log into a booklet form.
