Auto thieves charged through joint undercover sting operation

Four individuals accused of multiple auto thefts arrested, one at large

(Indianapolis, Ind.) -- Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry announced today that charges have been filed against five individuals accused of stealing vehicles out of Marion, Johnson, and Hendricks counties. The charges stem from a nearly year-long undercover operation conducted by the Lawrence Police Department, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Indiana State Police and the National Insurance Crime Bureau, in which seven allegedly stolen vehicles were purchased by undercover officers from the accused. The agencies and undercover officers as well as our deputy prosecutors involved in these cases should be commended for their work. This was a lengthy and dangerous investigation that exemplifies the positive results we can get from interagency cooperation, Prosecutor Curry said. The perpetrators of these crimes have stolen more than vehicles, they have robbed residents and business owners of their sense of security. According to the probable cause affidavits, the vehicles were stolen from various Central Indiana locations, including a car jacking on West 11th Street, a residential driveway in Greenwood, an auto dealership in Plainfield, and a car rental agency in Indianapolis. The total value of the seven vehicles is estimated at more than $104,000. Jeremy Henderson and Jamison Scott are charged with Corrupt Business Influence (C Felony), four counts of Money Laundering (D Felony), and four counts of Auto Theft (D Felony). Terrel Kay is charged with Auto Theft (D Felony). Dominique Miller is charged with Forgery (C Felony) and Auto Theft (D Felony). Arron Smith is charged with Altering or Removing an Original or Special Vehicle Identification Number (C Felony), Possession of a Vehicle with an Altered Vehicle Identification Number (D Felony), Sale of Vehicle with Altered Vehicle Identification Number (D Felony), and Auto Theft (D Felony).

Henderson, Kay, Miller and Smith are in custody. The publics assistance is requesting in apprehending Jamison Scott. Scott is a 26-year-old black male, 6 2 and approximately 205 lbs. Information leading to Scott can be reported to Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS. A charge of a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. -30NOTES: Charging information and probable cause affidavits for the cases are available at: http://www.scribd.com/doc/148776915/Auto-Theft-Probable-Cause-Charging-Information Alert information on Jamison Scott is available at: http://www.scribd.com/doc/148777672/Wanted-Jamison-Scott
