Lee County Board of County Commissioners 2115 Second Street Ft.

Myers, FL 33901 RE: Support of the Adoption of a Vacant Property Registration Ordinance (VPR) Dear Commissioners: Please accept this letter as an indication of my support for the adoption of the Vacant Property Registration Ordinance. For far too long the banks have been allowed to deny their role and responsibility in the mortgage foreclosure tragedy that has befallen this country and our county. They have only been concerned about their own bottom line, while disregarding their community responsibility. Ordinances similar to the one being considered by you have proven to be a major step in reversing this trend throughout many other cities and counties in Florida. Its time Lee County followed their lead and became proactive in this crisis. My support is based on the following benefits a properly administered ordinance and VPR program will have in reversing the negative impact the foreclosure crisis has had on our neighborhoods and communities by: Identifying and holding foreclosing lenders responsible for securing and maintaining properties during the foreclosure process and subjecting those that refuse too, to penalties for non-compliance. Stabilizing property values and reducing crime in our neighborhoods. Providing code enforcement staff with a proactive tool to alert them to potential code enforcement issues and also provide them with additional revenue. Reducing the financial burden on HOAs/COAs imposed on them by the irresponsible banks when they refuse to maintain vacant properties during foreclosure. Providing Law Enforcement critical responsible party information when addressing criminal activity issues common to properties during the foreclosure process.

As a voter and Lee County taxpayer, I urge you to move forward with the adoption of the VPR Ordinance. Sincerely,
