Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, the powers, against the rulers of thedarkness of this age, and against the spiritual hosts of wickedness inthe heavenly places.
Ephesians 6:11-12Dear Children of God,“Angels and Demons”. That is the title of the book by Dan Brownwhich is scheduled to be released as a movie on May 15
th
. Basicallythe story line goes like this: A secret society called “The Illuminati”plots revenge against the Roman Catholic Church as payback for thepersecution their members had undergone centuries ago. The storyline is quite clever and the book is quite entertaining. Like “The DaVinci Code” Brown bases some of the story loosely on biblical con-cepts and religious ideas. Though a great writer, Brown unfortu-nately tends to take great liberty in matters of the faith and the con-clusions that he comes to concerning Christianity, clearly expressedthrough his characters. But my purpose is not to write a review on the book, nor to promotethe movie. Rather it is to remind us that angels and demons are notsimply the subject of books, but in fact are real. They are not crea-tures of myth, nor are they concepts imagined by superstitious peo-ple. Angels are not divine objects intended to be worshipped, but areGod’s messengers who protect us. Hebrews 1 speaks of this, andclearly distinguishes between Jesus and the angels.
