Introduction to Culture Hubs

We want to make sure that schools know what’s available locally, what performances or exhibitions they could visit, what creative resources they could bring into the classroom, where they could find great CPD for teachers led by professional artists and how they can help their students connect with culture.

This publication aims to give you a small taster of the rich arts and cultural offer available for schools in the North West.

We’ve used it to signpost those organisations that the Arts Council has
funded (they refer to these organisations as National Portfolio Organisations or NPO’s) but we know there are hundreds more
arts organisations and other cultural settings so we’re going to use the online Culture Hub to signpost these too.

The new Culture Hub will give much more information about the organisations featured in this brochure and will also include
many more community arts organisations, museums, galleries, libraries and the newly formed Music Hubs.

The Culture Hubs portal will go live in September 2013 and schools can make sure they’re first to sign up by visiting
www.culturehubs.co.uk or emailing dave.muir@curiousminds.org.uk

Who ar Curious Minds and what isa Bridg Organisation?
Curious Minds is a Charity based in Burnley and previously responsible fordelivering Creative Partnerships. Curious Minds is now part of a nationalnetwork of ten Bridge organisations funded by Arts Council England to connectchildren and young people with great art and culture. One of our key roles isto help schools and other educational settings identify and access quality artsopportunities for children and young people and to support schools in connectingwith as many arts and cultural organisations in the North West as possible. Our regional consultation, carried out earlier this year with over 450 stakeholders, showed that school leaders feel as strongly as ever that arts and cultural learningshould be at the heart of the educational offer but are finding it difficult to bringthe time, resources and skills together to create a varied quality offer for childrenand young people. That’s where we come in! As a Bridge organisation we can support you and your school in a range of ways:whether that’s finding a new arts organisation to work with or to enhance your Artsmark application. We could support with developing a funding bid or mappingout a young person’s Arts Award journey. We know that the arts bring intrinsic benefits and raise confidence, self-esteemand offer a powerful outlet for positive energy. We know that the arts can be anexcellent vehicle for communicating messages and bringing the curriculum to life.
