CD Review

Music in Our Time, MUS 112 Summer, 2013

Using the list below, choose one work and find a compact disc that includes that piece. After listening to the entire album, write a thorough review of the piece and any other pieces on the same disc. The CD Review is due at the beginning of class on Wednesday, June 19th. DOCUMENT FORMAT GUIDELINES: CD Reviews must be 2 pages (minimum) type-written and double spaced, and stapled in the upper left corner The header on your review should be single-spaced and include the following information: Name MUS 112 CD Review Use 1-inch page margins and 12 pt Times New Roman font Use your name in the Header in the (upper) right corner starting on page 2 (in case the pages come apart), Page numbers should be centered in the Footer. Before starting please list the full title of the CD (This may be listed as a title for the paper) Be certain to correctly italicize the album name, and use quotations for the movements, or song titles. Tips for writing a great review: Play the album from beginning to end. Listen to its overall sound. What appeals to you and makes it unique? What lyrics (If any) or sounds stand out to you? Take a 10-minute break and then listen through the album a second time again. This time, study it more technically and try to find its problems, if any. Take notesnote certain lyrics that you enjoy or certain instruments that really the tracks come alive. Circle any personal favorite tracks and take note of why. Be certain that your notes are legible and detailed, as they will serve as your guide as you write. Type up the first draft. A basic album review format should include a brief introduction about the artist, the album, and the performer's style of music. Break down the album from start to finish. Explain which tracks you liked best first. Work your way to the bottom of your personal track list, where you should discuss how you feel the album may falter. Conclude the review with your overall opinion and state whether or not you would recommend the album to others. Read your work before turning it in!

Students who are caught plagiarizing their work (Copying content from CD liner notes or the internet) will be referred to the office of student conduct and will also receive a grade of 0% (F).
