The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) is fully aware of the importance
and necessity of producing a National Curriculum which meets the needs and aspirations
of the Palestinian society. It is also aware of the fact that such a curriculum is a means to
fostering the well established values and traditions and a sustainable development spirit,
as emphasized by the first Palestinian curricula plan principles.
The Ministry pays great attention to school textbooks since they are the basic component
of the curriculum, an indispensable medium of learning, in addition to other means of
learning such as the Technology education and the culture.
These textbooks constitute the foundation for Palestinian education; they include
experiences, information and data introduced in a simple, logical but challenging way,and
supported by suitable audio-visual aids.
The Ministry implemented the fifth phase of the Palestinian Curriculum Plan for the
2004/2005, thus completing the basic cycle of primary education from grades 1-10. They
will be followed by textbooks for the secondary stage.
These books are annually revised and enriched through feedback from educators and
teachers in the field. The first four editions of each book are treated as trial copies. The
more efforts exerted in developing the school textbooks, the better the books will be. As a
result, collaborative efforts of educators and experts in this field are in continual flux to
effect changes through well-organized revisions.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education thanks Arab, and friendly countries, in
addition to international institutions and organizations, for their support for the curriculum
project. It also extends its special thanks to national experts, educators, authors and
professionals and all relevant ministerial committees for their distinguished and
professional contribution to this achievement. Finally, we also extend our thanks to
Macmillan Education for their contribution to the First Palestinian English curriculum.
