INTRODUCTION:
Diabetes mellitus is a common disease across the world. It has increased from 30million to 246 million over the last two decades
.
Diabetes prevalence has increasedsteadily in the last half of this century and is rising. It is believed to be one of the maincriterions for deaths, every year. Diabetes is a metabolic disorder where in human bodydoes not produce or properly uses insulin, a hormone that is required to convert sugar,starches, and other food into energy. Human body has to maintain the blood glucose levelat a very narrow range, which is done with insulin.This article deals with herbs mentioned in the siddha literatures used in themanagement of diabetes. Yes I agree with you, herbs has the ability to nourish pancrease, liver and small interstine and bring back its normal functioning thus blood glucose is controlled and diabetes may be cured.
