Shell Petroleum Development Corporation-the Nigerian arm of Royal/Dutch Shell-reports that 50,200 barrels of oil were spilled in 1998 and 123,377 barrels in 1999, citing sabotage as the cause for 70 percent of the volume spilled in 1999 (these are the most recent numbers available from Shell's 2000 annual report).
