A WORD FROM DUKE JEYARAJ
Dear Reader,I started writing the chapters that has become a part of this book after Aunty
sent me an email. She is an Indian living in the West Indies with her doctor husband. They both have helped me a lot. They paid for the expenses I incurredwhen I was doing my M. Div. in Southern Asia Bible College, Bangalore and theyalways look to encourage me. In that email Aunty Manoharsingh asked me if I could sendmaterial for a home bible study for her friends and contacts across the globe. When I prayed about her request and started reading the Book of Daniel afresh, the messages youwill get to read in this book began to jump out. I would read a portion of the book of Daniel. Re-read it – sometimes upto 15 times. Meditate. I would not leave that passagetill it spoke to me. I am grateful to my teacher,
Rev. Braton Philips
, who taught me the book of Daniel when I was in Bible College. His lectures sowed in me an unquenchablethirst to study the major and minor prophets. The suggestion by one of my mentors atBible College,
Dr. Jacob Cherian
, that I should spend time preparing messages from allthe 66 books of the Bible, is another reason why I spent a lot of time on the book of Daniel – a book I did not preach too many messages on. I am indebted to him. My wife,
, has been a great source of encouragement in this book project. She did notmind my coming late from office (Some parts of this book were written at HSBC either during my breaks or after I logged out). My dad,
Mr. A. Jeyaraj
, triggered off theinterest in me to go deep into the Scriptures by buying me Study Bible after Study Bible.I went bananas over the art of coining words after I listened to the messages of
who was a master at that. And you will find that I have consciously used coinedwords to make these messages more memorable and palatable. It was from his wife, dear
, that I first learnt the essentials of Christian writing. Thanks a lot – all of you.
, a handsome young missionary kid with equally handsome editingability, went over these pages to punch in words that were in my mind but had beenswallowed up. Above all, I thank the
. I write in obedience to his unmistakablecall upon me to write in a manner the google generation will go gaga over God’s word.I have tried to explain select parts of the book of Daniel and make it relevant for theYahoo Youth. I have focused mainly on the narrative part. However the prophetic partsof Daniel are also touched here and there. It is my prayer that this book will dare you to be a Daniel in your place of work – be it a corporate office or a missionary/churchorganization.
