make your very own baby hair bow! For this lesson you will need the following items:
* 3/8" ribbon (grosgrain is the best to start with)
* Wire to tie off center * 1 alligator clip * scissors * Hot Glue Gun and Glue stick
Let's get started!
Above is all of the supplies you will need except
your glue gun and sticks.
The first thing you will need to do is measure and
cut about 18" of your 3/8" ribbon. I recommend starting out with grosgrain ribbon. You will also need to cut two shorter ribbons as well for your center (about 3-4") and to cover your clip (about 6"). Also, before you begin making your hair bow, be sure to snip a couple of wires. To start off you will need to bring the short end of your ribbon around and down the front of your long ribbon as pictured. Next, pull your long end of ribbon up and around the front over your short end, as pictured.
Next, you will bring that end up, around and
under to the center, holding firmly at the center of the bow at all times. Next pull the end of your ribbon up and around the center of your bow, as pictured. You have just created all 4 loops of your baby hair bow. make sure the loops are all the same size. Hold the center of your bow firmly and grab a piece of wire for your next step. Take your wire and place over the center of your bow. Bring the two ends of the wire around the back side of the bow and pinch slightly as pictured on left! Twist the wire together tightly as shown on right. Snip the wire down with your scissors as shown on the left. You will now need to press that wire down onto a hard surface to make it lay down and not poke out. Be sure to have the wire lay down sideways so it can be fully covered by the clip. On the right you have your bow. At this time time you need to trim your ends up and seal. Set your bow aside and let's go on to make the center and cover the clip. For this example let's make a center knot for the center of our hair bow. Take the shorter of the two shorter strands you cut earlier. The above pictures show exactly how to make the knot! Once you have made you center knot as shown above, set it aside and let's go on to learn how to cover an alligator pinch clip. Take your last short stand of ribbon and run a small amount of hot glue along the end 1" of the ribbon.
Quickly take the ribbon with hot glue and apply
firmly to the alligator clip as shown above.
Next, apply hot glue to enough of the ribbon to
cover the top of the clip. Quickly and firmly press ribbon over the top of the clip.
Next, fold the ribbon end over the back of the
clip (pinch part). Trim to the above shown length, and hot glue.
You now need to grab all of your pieces. You will
now go on to learn how to attach the bow to the clip. Place a small dot of hot glue onto the middle back of the hair bow, right over the wire (left). Turn the bow over and while making sure centered, place firmly onto the alligator clip, making sure to cover the wire completely. The flat part of the clip should be on the bottom. Hold the firm grip for about 30 seconds to make sure the glue sets and hold your bow nicely.
This is how your bow should look when attached
to the clip (unfinished) Next, lets attach your center knot. Place the center of the knot over the center of the baby bow completely covering the wire center (left). Bring the ends around to the back of the bow and hold firmly (right). Once the center knot ends are wrapped around the back of the bow you will need to trim down those ends. Snip down so as much as the obove (right) is showing. You now need to glue these down under the clip.
Apply a small amount of hot glue to the underside
of the trimmed end. Pinch open the clip and press firmly down. Do the same to the other end. And there you have it! You have just created your own gorgeous baby hair bow!
Congratulations!
