ROAD PROJECTS 2013

In 2013 the City of Edmonton is spending $441.8 million on 177 road projects. This investment includes $87.2 million for major arterial work, $166.6 million for bridges and interchanges and $167 million for Neighbourhood Renewal projects. It also includes $12 million that City Council reallocated for additional arterial milling and overlay projects, in recognition of the Citys need to enhance its approach to roadway rehabilitation. City Council also added an extra $9 million to the 2013 road projects budget for 50 additional triage neighbourhood milling and overlay projects. In keeping with a more robust approach to arterial roadway rehabilitation, City Council has already increased the 2014 budget for road projects from $15 million to $30 million by reallocating $9 million and adding $6 million from Edmontons share of the Government of Albertas Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI) fund. This additional $15 million investment will pave the equivalent of a two-lane road that is 35 kilometres long, roughly the distance between downtown Edmonton and Leduc.
