2009.
Welcome to our beautiful ci-ty and to the fifth edition of thesecond season of “The Sibenik Times”. It seems that the wholeof the Sibenik County is holdinga clean up action in recent weeks. From collecting old paper to dred-ging the sea bed of dumped cartyres, the last weeks have seen itall. I am personally a very activeecological person; I always recyc-le whenever I can, use ecologicalfriendly products whenever possi-ble and help eco actions. So I greetthese recent clean ups with very open arms and hope that they are a sign of things to come. Itsbeyond me belief how someonecan drop litter on the streets letalone in a national park, so afterthese actions I hope the natu-re will stay clean at least for theforeseeable future. Not only amI impressed that so many localorganisations can come togetherto actually do something positiveI also happy that younger peopleare getting involved. Teachingour children the importance of living in an ecologically friendly environment is the key. Not only do these young minds seem wi-llingly to learn they are also happy to be involved in a more practicalmanner. Good for them! I wouldlike to take this opportunity to gi- ve my best wishes to the citizensof Primošten in this special week.I know that the Day of Primoštenis a much respected day in theircalendar and I’m sure they willturn up in large numbers to ce-lebrate. Unfortunately I won’t beable to make the big day on the10th of May but I wish everyoneall the best.

POPULARITY OF CROATIA TO GIVE UK AIRPORTSA MUCH-NEEDED BOOST

REAL ESTATE PRICES ON THE COAST GROW BY INERTIA

DALMATIAN RESTAURANTS OFFER 'GENEROUS PORTIONS AND FINE WINES'

CROATIA TO ACCESS EU ON JANUARY 3, 2012!
According to the latest realestate report by the Centar ne-kretnina web portal, there was aminor correction of prices in thereal estate market in 1Q 2009.In order to stimulate the market, some banks launched promotio-nal home sale offers, but witho-ut a considerable effect. Howe- ver, the initiative also showedthat developers could afford tocut their prices by ten per cent,or so, and banks can keep theirrates frozen. The expected mo-mentum failed to arrive, becauseof an overall uncertain economicoutlook and expectation for pri-ces to drop further, analysts say. They expects economic forecastfor the remainder of the year toplay a key role in the Croatianreal estate market. A picture isnot rosy, for now.The ask prices have gone upin the Adriatic area ahead of thetourist season, but probably on-ly out of habit the remains fromprevious years. The restaurants of Dalmatiaare home to some of the mostinteresting and delightful cu-isines in all of Croatia. That isaccording to a new feature inthe UK’s Telegraph newspaper, which has detailed some of thebest places to eat and drink inthe region’s countless islands. Visiting the area, Claire Manndescribed some of the area’s besteateries, which often serve dis-hes such as locally caught fish.Ms Mann wrote: “In most pretty bays where you drop anchorthere is a ‘konoba’ (restaurant)on the water’s edge. They are in- variably family run. “The patronis often an eccentric characterbent over a sizzling grill with acigarette clamped between histeeth.” She added that portionsat these restaurants were “gene-rous”, meaning it was often po-ssible to share, while many soldlocally produced Croatian wine. The growing popularity of de-stinations outside of the costly Eurozone, including Croatia, could help a number of smallerUK airports weather the currenteconomic turbulence, it hasbeen claimed. While passengerdemand on many routes out of the UK has fallen markedly overrecent months, as consumersstruggle with declining levelsof disposable income alongsideunfavourable exchange rates, the chief executive of Kent In-ternational has argued that de-stinations such as Croatia couldthrow both airlines and airportsa valuable lifeline this summer.Speaking on the back of the la-unch of the first flight of the se-ason from the Kent airport, Ma-tt Clarke explained that Britonsare now keen to take an affor-dable break in countries wherethe Euro is not used, suggestingthat demand for Croatian villaholidays could be higher thanever over the next few months. He stated that “many eager holi-daymakers would be looking forextra value for money for theirannual fortnight getaway”, withCroatia and Jersey representingplaces where “the pound willstretch a bit further”, accordingto the website yourthanet.co.uk.Earlier this month, Forbes maga-zine named Croatia as one of thecleanest countries to visit in the whole world, pointing out thatits popular beaches and spotlessall year round. The commission proposedby Olli Rehn would favour theSlovenian side, Hannes Swo-boda said. In this situation, Isupport Croatia 100 percent!Mediation cannot be conducted without the legal framework before the International Courtof Justice. The commission pro-posed by Olli Rehn would bebiased and favour the Sloveneside. Croatia’s position was notsufficiently considered in thisproposal, doctor Hannes Swo-boda, reporter for Croatia inthe European Parliament exc-lusively told Javno news site, commenting yesterday’sstatement of CroatianPresident StjepanMesic, PM Ivo Sa-nader and Parli-ament SpeakerLuka Bebic. Thebilateral issue sho-uld not be mixes with negotiations of any country for Europe-an Union accession. After thetalks are deblocked, the disputeshould be solved before the In-ternational Court of Justice. After the official announ-cement, which Croatiahas planned for next week, with which itaccepts the media-tion of the commi-ssion proposed by Olli Rehn just forthe preparation of the legal framework of facing the Interna-tional court of Justice, dr.Hannes Swoboda believes thatOlli Rehn should summon ameeting of Slovene and Croatianforeign affairs ministers so thata joint solution can be sought. The whole situation will lead toCroatia`s European Union acce-ssion being prolonged, so thataccession talks might be finali-sed by the end of 2010 and thenthe accession procedure lasts ayear and a half. I believe it is re-alistic that Croatia will become amember of the European Unionon January 3, 2012 – Dr. HannesSwoboda concluded.
