MLB FUTURES ALL-STAR GAME


Seattle Mariners minor league pitcher Taijuan Walker and shortstop Brad Miller have been selected to play for the U.S. squad in the 15th
annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game to be played July 14 at Citi Field in New York City (11 a.m. PT/ESPN2, ESPN2 HD and MLB.com,
MLB Network Radio) as part of All-Star weekend.This is Walkers second consecutive selection on the All-Star Futures roster.
Tacoma Rainiers hitting coach Howard Johnson will be part of the U.S. coaching staff.
The Mariners have had 30 selections to the Futures Game since its first beginning in 1999. Three players on the current 25-man roster
played in the Futures Game in the past: Felix Hernandez (2004), Kendrys Morales (2005) and Michael Saunders (2007). Hernandez
(All-Star: 2009, 2011-12; Futures Game: 2004) is one of 99 players to have competed n both the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and the
Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
Major League Baseball, in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau, MLB.com, Baseball America and the 30 Major
League Clubs, selected the 25 players currently on each team. Each Major League organization is represented and players from all fullseason Minor Leagues were eligible to participate.
For the first time, fans will determine the final player on both the U.S. and World Team rosters by casting their votes in the All-Star Sunday
Futures Finalists (#FuturesFinalists) ballot, available exclusively on MLB.com/futuresfinalists and the Club sites. Fans may begin voting
immediately and cast their ballots until Sunday, June 30th at 11:59 p.m. (EDT).
The 5 candidates for the U.S. are: OF Tyler Austin (Trenton/NYY; #VoteAustin); OF Nick Castellanos (Toledo/DET; #VoteCastellanos); 3B
Garin Cecchini (Portland/BOS; #VoteCecchini); OF Courtney Hawkins (Winston-Salem/CWS; #VoteHawkins); and OF Brandon Nimmo
(Savannah/NYM; #VoteNimmo). The players vying for the final roster spot on the World Team are: SS Javier Baez (Dayton/CHI; Puerto
Rico; #VoteBaez); 1B Ji-Man Choi (Jackson/SEA; South Korea; #VoteChoi); SS Carlos Correa (Quad Cities/HOU; Puerto Rico;
#VoteCorrea); 3B Renato Nunez (Beloit/OAK; Venezuela; #VoteNunez); and 2B Rougned Odor (Myrtle Beach/TEX; Venezuela;

RECAP: The Rainiers recorded 9 hits, but it wasnt enough as Tacoma was shutout by Las Vegas 0-9 on Friday night. CF Abraham
Almonte (2x4, BB) and SS Carlos Triunfel (2x5, 2B) each recorded 2 hits. Starter James Paxton (5.1,10,7,7,1,5,2HR) recorded his 6th
loss of the season, allowing 7 runs on 10 hits in 5.1 innings. RH Forrest Snow (1.2,2,2,2,2,2,2HR) allowed 2 solo home runs in the 6th
innings, LH Lucas Luetge (1.0,1,0,0,1,1) and RH Jonathan Arias (1.0,0,0,0,0,1) each tossed a scoreless inning in relief.
TRANSACTIONS: SS Brad Miller was selected from Tacoma to Seattle on Friday. Miller finished his stint with Tacoma on a 22 game
hitting streak, batting .385 (35x91) with 23 runs scored, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs and 27 RBI. The streak is currently the 2nd-longest
in the PCL this season (Chris Owings, REN: 23) and is 4 games shy of the Rainiers franchise long hitting streak (26). Miller has reached
base safely in all 26 games, including hits in 24 games, with Tacoma since his promotion from AA Jackson on May 25. Overall Miller hit
.350 (35x100) with 25 runs scored, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs and 27 RBI. In 42 games with Jackson, Miller hit .294 (45x153) with 27
runs scored, 7 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs, 25 RBI and 20 walks. In three professional seasons Miller has combined to bat .334
(290x867), including 186 hits last season (with A High Desert & AA Jackson) to rank 2nd in the minor leagues. He received the Mariners
Minor League Heart & Soul Award in 2012 for his exemplary play and leadership skills on and off the field. A native of the Orlando, FL area
(Windermere, FL), Miller was selected in the 2nd round (62nd overall) in the 2011 June Amateur Draft. He played three seasons at
Clemson University (2009-2011), where he was named the 2011 ACC Player of the Year, the 2011 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year
and was a two-time member of the USA Baseball National Team (2009-2010).
OF NOTE: Tacoma owns a 3.0-game lead over Colorado Springs in the PCL Pacific Northern Division. The Rainiers have now owned the
top spot in the division for 28 consecutive games. It marks the longest Tacoma has held that position since holding down first place for 41
consecutive games, June 29-August 13, 2010. OF Carlos Peguero has recorded 12 RBI over his last 9 games and 23 in 17 games since
June 10. During this 17-game stretch, Peguero is batting .365 (23x63) with 12 runs scored, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs, 23 RBI and 11
walks. OF Abraham Almonte has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games, batting .325 (13x40) with 9 runs scored, 2 doubles, 2 home runs and
7 RBI. LHP James Paxton recorded a seasonhigh 11 strikeouts on June 22 vs. Fresno. It marked his 9th career start recording at least 10
strikeouts (last: 11, 5/13/13 at New Orleans). RHP Taijuna Walker is currently the youngest player in the PCL this season and 2ndyoungest in Triple-A. He made his Triple-A debut vs. Fresno on June 25 at Cheney Stadium (W, 6.0,3,0,0,2,4).The Rainiers lead the
league in both runs scored (484) and home runs (93). Tacoma is averaging 5.92 runs per game this season, and is homering at a clip of
once every 30 at-bats. Of those 484 runs the Rainiers have scored, 148 (30.6%) have been accounted for via homers.

PCL PITCHER OF THE WEEK: LHP James Paxton was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher
of the Week for June 17-23. Paxton started 2 games for the Rainiers over that period, combining to
go 1-0 and striking out 16 batters through 12.0 innings. He limited Sacramento to 1 unearned run on
4 hits and fanned 5 in a win on the road, June 17. In his next outing, Paxton struck out a seasonhigh 11 batters over 6.0 shutout innings at home against Fresno on June 22. The 24-year-old is 4-5
with a 4.75 ERA (38 ER, 72.0 IP) over 15 starts at Tacoma in his first Triple-A season. He ranks
amongst the league pitching leaders in strikeouts (76) and strikeouts and strikeouts per 9.0 innings
pitched (9.50). Paxton is the fourth Rainiers player to receive a weekly league award this season
and the third to nab Pitcher of the Week honors. Right-handers Andrew Carraway (April 22-29) and
Jeremy Bonderman (April 29-May 6) and infielder Nick Franklin (April 22-29) were each recognized
by the PCL after producing outstanding weeks earlier this year.

POSTPONED RAIN

RECAP: The Generals and Smokies made it to the bottom of the 2nd inning Friday when rain hit
Smokies Park in game 1 of the doubleheader. After a 2 hour rain delay the game was suspended
with Tennessee leading 2-1 with 1 on and 1 out in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Game 2 of the
doubleheader was postponed. The 2 teams will not meet again at Smokies Park this season so the
game cannot be completed until the Smokies visit Jackson July 10-14 at The Ballpark in Jackson.
The dates for making up the 2 games will be announced at a later date.
OF NOTE: OF James Jones has hit safely in 6 of his last 7 games, batting .286 (8x28) with 3 runs
scored, 1 double, 2 home runs and 7 RBI. Since being promoted to Jackson, 5 of Ramon Morlas 6
hits have gone for extra-bases (2-2B, 3 HR). Overall he is batting .231 (6x26) with 4 runs scored, 2
doubles, 3 home runs and 8 RBI. LH Kyle Hunter has held oppoents scoreless in 17 of 19 relief
appearances this season. Overall he is 1-0 with 1 save and a 1.14 ERA (3 ER, 23.2 IP). He has
limited opponents to a .216 (19x88), while walking 6 and striking out 13. RH Tyler Burgoon has
allowed only 1 run over his last 11.0 innings in relief (7 G). During this stretch he has limited
opponents to a .132 average (5x38), while walking 5 and striking out 13. He has recorded at least 1
strikeout out in 19 of 20 appearances with Jackson (44 strikeouts overall), including 8 outings with at
least 3 strikeouts.

SOUTHERN LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: OF Julio Morban was named Southern League Player of the Week. At 21, Morban is
one of the younger players in the Southern League. He's also been one of the best, as he leads the circuit amongst the league leaders in
average, slugging perceanted and average with RISP. After going 0-for-2 with 2 strikeouts at Birmingham on Monday, Morban went on a
tear with 5 extra-base hits and 9 RBI in his next 5 games as the Generals took 3 of 5 from visiting Mobile. This is the first Hitter of the
Week selection for a Generals player since Brad Miller was selected the first week of the season.

RECAP: The Mavericks took an early 4-0 lead after 4 innings as High Desert held on for a 5-4 win over Modesto on Friday night. Starter
Jordan Pries (5.0,6,2,2,2,2) allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 5.0 innings, but didnt figure into the decision. RH David Colvin (2.0,4,2,2,0,1) blew
the save after being charged with 2 runs over 2.0 innings, but ended up recording his 4th win of the season. RH Grady Wood
(0.2,0,0,0,1,2) and RH Dominic Leone (1.1,0,0,0,1,3) combined to strike out 5 batters over the final 2.0 innings in relief. Leone recorded
his 10th save of the season after recording the final 3 outs of the game. 3B Patrick Kivlehan (3x3, R, RBI, BB) recorded a team-high 3
hits, while SS Brock Hebert (2x4, 2B) recorded the Mavericks only other multi-hit game.
OFNOTE: After allowing 9 runs in his first 11.2 innings with the Maverick, Dominic Leone has only 2 earned runs over his last 22.1 innings
in relief (0.81 ERA). During this stretch he has limited opponents to a .164 (12x73) average, while walking 5 and striking out 29. Since May
9, he has lowered his ERA from 6.23 to 2.80. LH Jeremy Dobbs currently has a 14.0 scoreless innings streak, dating back to May 24 (10
G). During this stretch he has limited oppoents to a .091 (4x45), while walking 2 and striking out 18. Overall he is 3-0 with a 1.10 ERA (2
ER, 16.1 IP) with 20 strikeouts in 13 games this season with High Desert. RH David Colvin has allowed only 4 earned runs over his last
18.0 innings in relief (2.00 ERA). He has struck out at least 1 batter in 21 of 23 appearances this season (43), including 9 straight games
(15). INF Dillon Hazlett has recorded a hit in 6 of his last 7 games, batting .310 (9x29) with 5 runs scored, 2 doubles, 2 home runs and 6

Friday night. Pike (7.0,2,1,1,1,6) recorded his 5th win of the season, allowing only 1 run on 2 hits
and striking out 6 in 7.0 innings. RH Blake Holovach (0.2,1,0,0,1,0) recorded 2 outs in the 8th,
before RH Mark Bordonaro (1.1,2,0,0,0,1) recorded the final 4 outs of the game to record his 2nd
save of the season. 1B Taylor Ard (2x4, RBI) led the team with 2 hits and knocked in 1 run, while
C Tyler Marlette (1x3, RBI, BB) and 3B Martin Peguero (1x2, RBI) each knocked in 1 of the
LumberKings 3 runs.
