December 2004 had caused a quarter of a million deaths. I asked myself what the connectionwas between this earthquake and one that had occurred exactly one year before in Bam, Iran onthe 26

December 2003, an earthquake that had also caused over 30,000 deaths.Further, as an astrologer I had drawn up the chart of the date the 2004 earthquakeoccurred and compared it to other disasters. I noticed a pattern but couldnt explain it: the Moonor other body seemed very often to be placed at the end of the sign of Gemini near the summersolstice and in the case of the 2004 Tsunami the Moon had been almost full and opposite the Sunand Pluto.To try and get a handle on the reason for this earthquake I asked myself what had causedthese two earthquakes to occur in this one month of December? Theysaw the Galactic Centre as the most powerful force, capable of birthing Suns as well as eating themup. They and other cultures also represented the Galactic Centre as a mother goddess with goodand bad aspects- a monster with breasts – and even told tales that the Milky Way was createdfrom such a breast. The Mayans felt themselves connected to this Centre as through an umbilicalcord. They saw it as both a creative womb and a destructive mouth bringing great ages to an endand birthing new ones. This is an idea that was shared by many cultures: the Galactic Centre wasthe mouth of a Milky Way serpent – the self-eating Ouroboros and marked the place where headand tail, beginning and end, met.As our Earth has a wobbly orbit around the Sun, the winter solstice position is verygradually changing.
