SURFERS have accused MP Jann Stuckey of making veiled threats to ban waveriders from Currumbin Alley after she was pushed to protect them from boat trafc at the famed break. Gold Coast Surfrider Foundation treasurer Chris Butler accused Ms
Stuckey of bullying at a meeting to prevent another death at the popular surf spot. She told me to be careful what I wished for when I was pressuring her for results, he said. It was threatening and a lot of people who were at the meeting agreed it was a bullying tactic. Ms Stuckey the Tourism
Minister said the surng representatives became abusive during the meeting but she made no threats. However, she seemed to put a question mark over the future of surng at the Alley if the surfers continued their campaign, saying: If we start to look into all of these aspects we may
not get the outcome we want. That is my responsibility as a Member of Parliament to let them know that if we start asking questions and dispatching ofcial bureaucrats, then we may not like what we get. The Alley ey is one of the Gold Coast's oast's best and most popular surf urf breaks, attracting hordes of
surfers when conditions are right. The State Government is being pressured to improve surf safety there after surfer Richard King was as struck by a boat and nd killed in 2011. There here have been several near misses this year.
