He is currently authoring a study on the characteristics of the typical Ponzi scheme perpetrator and recovery venues available to investors. He is also a speaker and author on attorney professionalism.

He is a member of the Public Investors Arbitration Bar Association, a nationwide association of securities lawyers dedicated to representing investors in securities-related disputes.

Darrell Duane Smith has been charged by theIowa regulators with selling unregisteredsecurities in Energae Holdings, in violation of thesecurities laws.
In their Cease and Desist Order against Smith,the Iowa regulators have stated: “the Divisionhas reason to believe that Smith has convertedconsumer’s money for his own personal use.” p.2
Energae financial records necessary tosubstantiate the Division’s accusations, ordetermine where the investor money went, arenot available at this time.
