Luke's Foreword:
Since many have taken in hand to set forthin order a declaration of those thingswhich are most surely believed among us, Just as they delivered themunto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first,to write unto you in order, most excellent Theophilus, That you might knowthe certainty of those things, in which you have been instructed.

The … Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Sonof God1
1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Wordwas with God, and the Word was God.1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.1:3 All things were made by him; and outside himwas not any thing made that was made.1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.1:5 And the light shines in darkness; and thedarkness comprehended it not.1:6 There was a man sent from God, whose namewas John.1:7 The same came for a witness, to bear witnessof the Light, that all men through him mightbelieve.1:8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bearwitness of that Light.1:9 That was the true Light, which lights everyman that comes into the world.1:10 He was in the world, and the world was madeby him, and the world knew him not.1:11 He came unto his own, and his own receivedhim not.1:12 But as many as received him, to them gavehe power to become the sons of God, even tothem that believe on his name:1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the willof the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

The birth of John was in this wise:
1.
1:5
THERE was in the days of Herod, the king of  Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of thecourse of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
2.
1:6
And they were both righteous before God,walking in all the commandments andordinances of the Lord blameless.
3.
1:7
And they had no child, because Elisabethwas barren, and they both were now welladvanced in years.
4.
1:8
And it came to pass, that while he executedthe priest's office before God in the order of his course,
5.
1:9
According to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to burn incense when he went intothe temple of the Lord.
6.
1:10
And the whole multitude of the people werepraying outside at the time of incense.
7.
1:11
And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altarof incense.
8.
1:12
And when Zacharias saw him, he wastroubled, and fear fell upon him.
9.
1:13
But the angel said unto him, Fear not,Zacharias: for your prayer is heard; and yourwife Elisabeth shall bear you a son, and youshall call his name John.
10.
1:14
And you shall have joy and gladness; andmany shall rejoice at his birth.
11.
1:15
For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink;and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, evenfrom his mother's womb.
12.
1:16
And many of the children of Israel shall heturn to the Lord their God.
13.
1:17
And he shall go before him in the spirit andpower of Elijah, to turn the hearts of thefathers to the children, and the disobedient tothe wisdom of the just; to make ready a peopleprepared for the Lord.
14.
1:18
And Zacharias said unto the angel, Howshall I know this? for I am an old man, and mywife well advanced in years.
15.
1:19
And the angel answering said unto him, I amGabriel, that stand in the presence of God; andam sent to speak unto you, and to show youthese glad tidings.
16.
1:20
And, behold, you shall be dumb, and notable to speak, until the day that these thingsshall be performed, because you believe notmy words, which shall be fulfilled in theirappropriate time.
17.
1:21
And the people waited for Zacharias, andwondered why he tarried so long in thetemple.
18.
1:22
And when he came out, he could not speakunto them: and they perceived that he hadseen a vision in the temple: for he beckonedunto them, and remained speechless.
19.
1:23
And it came to pass, that, as soon as thedays of his ministration were accomplished, hedeparted to his own house.
20.
1:24
And after those days his wife Elisabethconceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
21.
1:25
Thus has the Lord dealt with me in the daysin which he looked on me, to take away myreproach among men.
22.
1:26
And in the sixth month the angel Gabrielwas sent from God unto a city of Galilee,
