RIBBON OF BLUE
By Peter D LausevicAudio:Ribbon of Blue
Introduction
Our God is a God of love and never on any occasion does he tell us to do somethingthat is not for our own benefit.Sometimes if we would only see the end from thebeginning, we would really begin to understand the reasons for what God asks of us.We would begin to say praise the Lord for the rules he has laid down for our living.
2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and whatcommunion hath light with darkness? 15And what concord hath Christ withBelial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16And whatagreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of theliving God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I willbe their God, and they shall be my people. 17Wherefore come out from amongthem, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; andI will receive you, 18And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sonsand daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
This verse talks about we as being the temple of the living God. God says ‘I will dwellin them.’ God wants to live with us. God wants to live in our temple. How long doesGod want to live in our temple?
Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heavenand the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2And I Johnsaw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven,prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell

with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them,and be their God.
What a wonderful picture of the holy city coming down to this earth and thetabernacle dwelling with us. God wants to live with us throughout all eternity.
Come Out From Among Them
Since God wants to live with us, what does he want to do with this temple we arecarrying with us?
2 Corinthians 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate,saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
God wants us to be separate from anything that is unclean. Only under theseconditions can he live with us. Only when we are separate from the unclean things of this world can he dwell with us. We are not his children until we fulfil the conditions.We may say, I am a child of God. It says, I will be a father unto you. But when? Onlywhen we separate. First there is separation in order for this to happen.
Christ's followers are required to come out from the world, and be separate,and touch not the unclean, and they have the promise of being the sons anddaughters of the Most High, members of the royal family. But if the conditionsare not complied with on their part, they will not, cannot, realize the fulfillmentof the promise. A profession of Christianity is nothing in the sight of God; buttrue, humble, willing obedience to His requirements designates the children of His adoption, the recipients of His grace, the partakers of His great salvation.Such will be peculiar, a spectacle unto the world, to angels, and to men. Their peculiar, holy character will be discernible, and will distinctly separate themfrom the world, from its affections and lust. {2T 441.1}
You want to be a child of the king? You want to be a member of the family of God?There is a requirement here. We have been eagerly waiting for the outpouring of theHoly Spirit. We have been eagerly waiting for the time of the latter rain to pour uponus. We want to go home to the land that God has promised to our forefathers. Whatis the condition of which the latter rain will come upon us. What is the condition thatwill give us that power? The Early Christians Let us look at an example;
The early Christians were indeed a peculiar people. Their blamelessdeportment and unswerving faith were a continual reproof that disturbed thesinner's peace. Though few in numbers, without wealth, position, or honorarytitles, they were a terror to evildoers wherever their character and doctrineswere known. Therefore they were hated by the wicked, even as Abel was hatedby the ungodly Cain. GC page 46.

Where ever their character and doctrines were known, they were a terror to evildoers. It was not character alone. It was doctrine also. Character is a result of puredoctrine. First comes a knowledge of the pure doctrine, and then comes a character.Unless you and I have this experience of doctrine coupled together with a purecharacter, we will not be a terror to anyone. We will not be able to share the gospelto the whole world with effectiveness. The early Christian church had it. If we want toexperience the latter rain, we need to have this same experience. When we talkabout separation, what type of question should we have in regard to separation?
Let the fashion change, and convenience would no longer be mentioned. It isthe duty of every child of God to inquire: Wherein am I separate from theworld? Let us suffer a little inconvenience, and be on the safe side. Whatcrosses do God's people bear? They mingle with the world, partake of their spirit, dress, talk, and act like them. {1T 277.1}
We have some examples of Jesus where we should be thinking for ourselves;
Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one,and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Yecannot serve God and mammon.
It is impossible to have the world in one hand and God in the other hand. You cannothave the best of both worlds. Either you have God, or you do not have him at all.
Matthew 6:25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what yeshall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Isnot the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
These three things are what the world is fully preoccupied with. They have no timefor anything else.
Matthew 6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do theyreap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye notmuch better than they?
We find here it does not mean we do not care as the father takes care of us. Itmeans we should not be preoccupied with these things.
In The Beginning
When we talk about dress reform to understand the principles, the best place to goback to is the beginning. In the creation, everything was created perfect. If we ever want to look at a model of perfection in this world, that is where we look back at.Ever since the garden of Eden, we have experienced a fall of morality. What wasdress reform like in the garden of Eden? How did God create Adam and Eve?

There was a typo in this sermon. Rev 13:18 should have read Rev 13:8 the lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Will keep an eye on the sermons in future. They seem very Bible-based (Scripture).

Great sermon. I totally agree with everything that was said. You can't really disagree as a Christian with the Bible or SOP can you? I didn't realise we were supposed to dress more formally on Sabbath though, so that was interesting to read. Thanks for passing this onto me Ariadne! God bless ya Leah.
