Practical Information

General High-voltage (HV) testing is a special field of electrical power engineering with high importance for the verification of the reliability of the components of power systems. But because of the empiric character of HV engineering in general, HV testing is also important for research and development. Consequently, the knowledge of the principles of HV testing and its relevant international standards is important for both, designers and users of HV equipment. It is the aim of the Tutorials to transfer the know-how and the state-of-the-art of HV testing to all who are related to HV generation, transmission and distribution.

Who should attend? The Tutorials are suited for managers and engineers of HV test fields and test services, for designers of HV equipment, researchers and students of graduated schools. They may come from industry, utilities, repair shops, test and research laboratories, commissioning and service divisions. Which pre-conditions must be fulfilled? The Tutorials will be held on the level of a master course at a technical graduated school or university. They contain practical examples and calculations, but do not require any advanced knowledge in mathematics or other basic sciences. Consequently, the Tutorial is well suited for engineers who have a Bsc. or Msc. degree, but also for experienced technicians. How are the three Tutorials performed? The Tutorials are performed in English (on request also in German) language. For each Tutorial the participants will get a brochure with all transparencies shown, but with enough space for personal notes. The lecture room including presentation equipment (beamer, flipchart, white board) should be arranged locally. The duration of the seminars is as follows: Tutorial HVTMT (10.51): 12 lectures of 90 min each plus 1 h for free discussion per day. The course will be held at five or four consecutive days. Tutorial HVLT (10.52) and HVOST (10.53): 7 lectures of 90 min each plus 1 h for free discussion per day. The courses will be performed at three consecutive days. Remark: The last two Tutorials are short forms of Tutorial HVTMT with special attention to laboratory respectively onsite HV testing. Who reads the Tutorials? The Tutor of the courses is Dr. Wolfgang Hauschild, the former Technical Director of HIGHVOLT. He is very experienced in the field of HV testing and HV engineering, closely related to the international standardization (German Speaker to IECTC 42: HV test techniques and Convener of one of its working groups) and research work (CIGRE working group D1.33) as well as active in teaching on an university level. Is there a Certificate for participants? The Tutorials are not connected with an examination, but each participant will get a certificate for successful participation. How to order a Tutorial? Ask the HIGHVOLT Sales Department, preferably via the local Agent, for a quotation for the Tutorial! You may use the Questionnaire No. 10.102 or you require with the reply to the HIGHVOLT website.

The Tutorials are courses (seminars) on the scientific and technical basis of HV testing for development, quality assurance in factories and on site as well as for condition assessment and diagnostics. Special attention is given to the introduction, interpretation and application of the IEC standards, especially those related to HV test techniques:

IEC 60060-1 (Requirements for HV laboratory testing) IEC 60060-2 (HV measurement) IEC 60060-3 (Requirements for HV testing on site) IEC 60270 IEC 62478 IEC 61083 (Partial discharge measurement) (Non-conventional PD measurement) (Digital recorders for HV testing)

Selection of Tutorials Furthermore, the requirements of apparatus standards are considered. Three different Tutorials are offered: Tutorial HVTMT is related to the whole field of HV test and measuring techniques including laboratory and on-site testing (see Data Sheet 10.51 for the content).

Tutorial HVLT is a short version of Tutorial HVTMT with special reference to laboratory testing (see Data Sheet 10.52).

Tutorial HVOST is a short version of Tutorial HVTMT with special reference to on-site testing for commissioning and condition assessment of insulations (see Data Sheet 10.53).
