Management Development Programmes are the training methods for enhancing organizational performance through experiential learning. Such programs are often also referred to as corporate adventure training and outdoor management development.

purpose of MDPs :

MDPs provide considerable intellectual stimulation. This is in itself a good thing , because in the normal routine of business career places relatively new demands on the intellect and one of the occupational hazards of being an business executive is the cerebral ossification. In that sense MDP perform a useful function.

Secondly, we acquire a nodding acquaintance with new concepts and new developments in the area of managerial techniques..
The third benefits one derive from an MDP is the embellishment of ones vocabulary-and this is good thing if the jargon is used circumspectly, and with the fact and understanding

Internship and assistance : An internship is an agreement between you and a company or organization for a fixed period of time, such as a semester or quarter. Job Rotation:

It creates an interest and leads to less boredom. Also if workers are interchangeable, if one calls in sick or leaves another can do their job .

Lecture. Special study. Films. Television. Conference or discussion. Case study. Role playing. Simulation.

Lectures: lecture is a verbal presentation of information by an instructor to a large audience. The lecture is presumed to possess a considerable depth of knowledge of the subject at hand. The virtue of this method is that it can be used for very large groups. Audio-Visuals: It includes television slides , overheads , video tapes and films. this can be used to provide some realistic examples of job conditions and situations at the condensed period of time. Moreover the quality of the presentation is controllable and remains equal for every one.

MDPs: Purpose & Methods

Case study: It is the written description of an actual situation of business which provokes, in the reader, the need to decide what is going on, what the situation really is , or what the problems are, and what and should be done. It appears to be an ideal method to promote decision making abilities within the constraints of limited data. Role playing: It is generally focused on emotional issues (mainly human relations) rather than actual situation as in case study. Role playing helps promote interpersonal relations .Attitude change is another result of role playing.

Conclusion:
MDP provides innovative and practical ideas about critical management challenges facing mid-level administrators in the early years of their professional careers. The program encourages to think beyond the confines of ones discipline and area of administrative responsibility. MDP prepares participants to become better leaders of their unit, department, or school. MDP provides ideas that enable to spend less time putting out fires and more time providing forward-thinking leadership.
