From the desk of CAAYE Founder President, Dr Rahul Mirchandani Dear Friends, It is with immense pleasure that CAAYE presents you with its rst periodical newsle er. Through this publica on, the Branding and Communica ons team of CAAYE, currently led by Ms Nurul-Huda Afandi, from JCI Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, has successfully chronicled the array of ac vi es that CAAYE and its stellar member organisaons in Bangladesh, Brunei, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Singapore, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have undertaken in the Asian Region to create a be er youth entrepreneurship ecosystem. We do hope that you ll nd the sharing of these best prac ces and key programme informa on useful. The Inaugural CAAYE Young Entrepreneur Summit was hosted in Mumbai, India by CIIs Young Indians. The event saw par cipa on by over 200 delegates from member countries. The past few months, CAAYE and all member organisa ons worked hard to present the historic communiqu which captured the voices of over 25,000 young Entrepreneurs represented by the 9 member organisa ons of CAAYE to Heads of State, Ministers of Youth and Senior ocials in the respec ve Ministries.

The communiqu was also presented at the 8th Commonwealth Youth Ministers mee ng (8CYMM) to Youth Ministries of all 35 Commonwealth countries in a endance at Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea and to the United Na ons Secretary Generals Special Envoy for Youth. We also had an audience with the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea at the Grand opening ceremonies where he showed keen interest in forming a CAAYE-like alliance for the Pacic region. Similar interest was shown for Africa and the Caribbean regions by the Ministers from Samoa, Zambia and Namibia. The Youth Ministers collec vely applauded the construc ve recommenda ons made by CAAYEs members in the communiqu aimed at improving access to nance for young entrepreneurs and crea ng a mentorship culture and educaon system that encourages youth entrepreneurship in the Region.

The 8CYMMs Ministerial communiqu has formally endorsed the CAAYE communiqu and the voices raised in Mumbai at our Summit were heard with great interest by all member governments of the Commonwealth. CAAYE has thus proved that our network of networks is a recognized champion of youth entrepreneurship in Asia and, as a part of the ocial Commonwealth process, is able to engage, contribute to and impact the work of the Commonwealth. CAAYE was also accorded a special privilege with CAAYEs Representa ves from all member countries being invited to London for the Commonwealth Day celebra ons. CAAYE Representa ves from India, Pakistan, Brunei, Malaysia and Bangladesh had the opportunity to meet with Her Majesty QUEEN ELIZABETH II, Head of the Commonwealth, and His Majesty The Duke of Edinburgh at Malborough House, to provide them a brief on CAAYE and our acvi es in the Asian Region. This was a ROYAL recogni on of our contribu on to building youth enterprise in Asia. We were also invited to address the Commonwealth High Commissioners Banquet where recommenda ons of the CAAYE communiqu were presented to the London based High Commissioners of all Countries of the Commonwealth. We also spoke at the House of Lords of theUK Parliament, on invita on by the Commonwealth Council on Educa on, to provide our recommenda on. CAAYE presented case studies and shared Asian best prac ces on Integra ng Educa on and Skills programmes to promote youth entrepreneurship.

While in London, CAAYE also met with the Commonwealth Secretary-General, DFID, Young Brits, James Caan Foundaon and the Girl Guides Associa on to explore opportuni es of working together in the Region.

CAAYE also ac vely par cipated in the Asia Conference on Financial Inclusion and Financial Literacy held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. This was an ideal pla orm to connect with the Governors and Senior Ocials of various Central Banks across the Asian Region and advocate banking reform that will provide more inclusive, fair and transparent nancial access for young in business. We do hope that CAAYEs construc ve recommenda ons will be considered by the nancial ins tu ons in Asia. Planning has also begun for CAAYEs agship Young Entrepreneur Summit scheduled in Colombo in November 2013, in the days leading up to the Commonwealth Heads of Government mee ng. The Secretary-General of the Federa on of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, CAAYEs host member organisa on has oered full support to CAAYE and will soon be rolling out the red carpet for another historic gathering of Asias best and most dynamic young entrepreneurs. We are also looking forward for our Interim Mee ng and Leadership Assembly scheduled in Singapore in June 2013. CAAYE is a strong movement for suppor ng youth entrepreneurship in Asia. Above all, the eorts of the CAAYE Representa ves from each of the member organisa ons have been the pillars eorts and me.

It has indeed been a busy and very produc ve days. CAAYE wishes to thank the invaluable support extended on which CAAYEs founda ons are being built. I must sincerely appreciate each of them - the Commonwealth Secretariats Director of Youth Aairs, the Regional Director of the Commonwealth Youth Programme-Asia Centre, Programme Manager of the Commonwealth Youth Programme in London and all senior ocials within the CYP. Their recognion of CAAYEs poten al to contribute on various regional and Pan Commonwealth pla orms has gone a long way in spreading our message and making.

Goat Farming Course This was a 4 days course conducted on 5 to 8 March in Muar, Johor. PUGM worked hand in hand with Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia to organize this par cular course and all speakers are from veterinary department who has broad knowledge in goat farming. The target group is rural youth who has interest in goat business. The course emphasised on transna onal agriculture and aim to a ract more youth to par cipate in agriculture business. 35 par cipants had beneted from this informa ve course. The modules: i) Business Strategy ; ii) Large Scale Commercial Farming; iii) Technology and Precision Agriculture; iv) Fully Integrated Value Chain; v) Meat Processing Business; vi) Nutri on & Parasite Control; vii) Financial Analysis; Viii) Infrastructure; ix) Goat Selec on; x) Marke ng. ================================= Workshop For Business Startup This workshop was designed mainly for youth and aimed at young crea ve people with a passion for entrepreneurship. It helped them to understand on start-up business concept as well as explained to the par cipants the business poten al and the reason to venture in business and become entrepreneurs. About 30 young graduates age ranging from 21 35 parcipated in this 3 days workshop conducted on 26 to 28 March 2013 in Cinta Sayang Resort in Sg Petani, Kedah. 30 January - 01 February 2013: Australia Australia India Youth Dialogue (AIYD) provides a sustainable platform for the youth of Australia and India to come together and foster an enduring partnership between the two great countries. The 3day conference was in Melbourne and Sydney.

Continuing on the India@75 theme of Nurturing the Positive Powers of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, fondly known as the People's President during his tenure as the President of India, shared his thoughts on the power of a strong society and how best it can be leveraged in today's environment. He was addressing a jam-packed audience of students at the Indira Institute of Commerce and Science.

This is the 5th year JCIPJ is organising JCI Crea ve Young Entrepreneur Award. Press Conferences were held na onwide since January to promote and encourage nomina ons by Malaysian young entrepreneurs aged 18-40. Nomina on ended 31 May 2013. The JCI CYEA 2013 Grand Award Ceremony and Top 10 Finalists Sharing Session will be held on 7 September at KL Conven on Center.
