iSci
 A typical week
iConS: Integrated Concept Seminars
are at theheart of the iSci week. iConS are where key conceptsand links are introduced, where research project materialis shared, and faculty members interact with the iScigroup.
Labs
begin by introducing students to essential scientificskills and techniques, and progress to includeexperiments based on research project objectives.Students will learn how to design experiments, analysedata, and present results in a variety of formats. Studentswill be expected to take increasing responsibility fordecision making in experimentation as the courseprogresses.
Guest Lectures
will be presented by researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders. Students will have theopportunity to learn from the wider population of practising scientists both within and outside McMaster.
Field trips
will punctuate the schedule, challengingstudents to think about field work, the local environment,and data collection outside the lab.
Scientific Literacy Sessions
are integrated with researchproject requirements for information management, written andoral communication skills, and the use of scientific literature.McMaster’s award-winning library resources are an integral partof the iSci program.
Outside the classroom
students will be involved inindividual and group research activities and will completeassignments focussing on the development of both coreknowledge and professional skills.
The iSci Environment
is located on the third floor of the Thode Science Library. It consists of a state-of-the-art interactive classroom (the ThInK Space), a dedicatedstudy area for iSci students (iStudy), and faculty offices.
