Before we investigate the animal kingdom, the Bible has something tosay about which plants are edible. "And God said, Behold, Ihave givenyou every herb BEARING SEED, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the FRUIT of a tree YIELDING SEED; to youit shall be for meat (food) ... I have given every GREEN herb for meat(food)" (Gen.1 :29-30).Thus, NUTS, FRUITS, GRAINS, and VEGETABLES are allowed. Theyare all GREEN at one time or another in their development and all have(or are) SEEDS. Furthermore, NUTS, FRUIT, GRAIN, and many veg-etables could be considered "FRUIT" since fruit is defined as "Theripened ovary or ovaries of a seed-bearing plant, together with acces-sory parts ..." (American Heritage Dictionary). But since the MUSHROOM is a fungus and reproduces by means ofspores, it has no leaves, flowers, or GREEN color! Nor does it BEARSEEDS! The MUSHROOM is forbidden as food! It is fascinating tolearn the reasons why! From the book How To Stay ~ In The Woodsby Bradford Angier, page 34, we read that "one should avoid wheneverpossible turning to mushrooms for emergency food. Mushroomshave very little general food value. If you are not already an expert, theincurred risks will be far out of proportion to the possible gain. Nosingle practical test is recognized, unfortunately, by which all poison-ous mushrooms can be detected." MUSHROOMS, and any other fungi
