Significant
By Brian Solis, blogger at  PR 2.0  and principal of FutureWorksPR, Co- Author Putting the Public Back in Public Relationsand Now Is Gone
CreditI’ve just returned fromNext09in Hamburg andDisruptive Mediain Stockholm where I’ve unveiled my new focus for what just may serve as the foundation for one of the nexttwo books I hope to write. As we are tempted by social networks and the kinship of new friends, followers, andfans, we intentionally or inadvertently, create a new era of personal recognition andattention that extracts an unconditioned human response and consequently shapes anunpredictable personality and behavior over time. When it comes to social networking, common sense, prudence, and direction are notingrained in our DNA. We all need a little help and advice, now more than ever. We're becoming important in our own domain and it's blurring the lines of how weinteract and behave when we step outside of it. At the same time however, findingcomfort beyond of our comfort zones opens our heart and mind to appreciating andultimately engendering new opportunities. This is how we can create our own destinyand one day, work our way to becoming significant.

Embody the change you wish to rouse.Be.Do.Get.Determine exactly where, who or what you strive to achieve...Symbolize and exercise the attributes, responsibilities, and disciplines required to earnand sustain your aspirations...Earn the very thing you were already becoming as you forced evolution through actionsand outlook...This is very much our moment in which we are empowered to shape how historyremembers us.Nowadays and for the foreseeable future, we are measured by the relationshipswe perpetuate and judged by the company we keep. Therefore, it’s our obligation to explorethe strategies and techniques that help us navigate through the chasms that surroundthe Social Web. We can only be enlightened through the study of what we think weknow, don’t know and what we should know about the rapid evolution of media and thetransformation of relationships, self-worth, human interaction, and how what we say, don’t say, share, and consume ultimately affects and defines us.This is our chance to have a positive effect on the future of media, our culture, and our place within the social ecosystem. While we perceive the social landscape to lay flat, itis very much hierarchical. This is opportunity to earn genuine significance through sincere and productive curation,

recognition, alignment, and interaction.I believe we are at the cusp of a personal fusion of separate yet hopelessly intertwinedideologies and methodologies and the connections we forge based on shared interestsand passions. This works for and against us as we set the stage for engineeringindividual and collective significance or irrelevance. It’s a delicate collision that births a new level of consciousness and awareness, settingthe stage for literacy, ethics, and with it, higher education and insight.
