INFORMATION REQUEST
| refer to your information request dated 27 May 2007 in which you asked for
information about the Police inquiries into the alleged theft of e-mails from Dr
Don Brash in his role as leader of the Opposition. In conjunction with the
review of the Police decision to refuse your request by the Office of the
Ombudsmen, Police have reconsidered the request and advise as follows.
You asked for:
* The date Police were first notified of the alleged theft of the e-mails
Police were notified of the alleged theft on 30 August 2005
+ The date Police began their official investigation into the alleged theft of
the e-mails
Police began its investigation on 28 September 2006
* All correspondence with the Parliamentary Service over the alleged
theft
Your request for this information is refused pursuant to section 6(c) and
9(2)(ba) of the Official Information Act 1982 as Police consider that the
release of the information would be likely to prejudice the maintenance of the
law and to protect information which is the subject to an obligation of
confidence.
* Any progress reports or briefing memos prepared or received on the
alleged theft
