Service Locations to Obtain or Renew Your License:
The Department of Safety and Homeland Security has Driver Service Centers located throughout the state. Our centers arenormally open 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and closed on official state holidays. A new security practice has been implemented with the issuance of an interim license or ID for customers who aregetting a driver license for the first time or renewing their license. This interim license is valid for up to 20 days, and thepermanent license or ID will be mailed to the customer’saddress. All interim licenses are printed on special securitypaper and include a photo and signature for identificationpurposes. The information on the front of the card can bevalidated by reading the 2D barcode. Many other securityfeatures have been incorporated to protect you in preventingdriver license fraud and identity theft.The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security(TDOSHS) is now issuing more secure driver licenses andidentification cards. These new licenses will be producedusing an improved production and issuing process resulting ina more tamper-proof construction. This will make it muchmore difficult to alter or counterfeit, protecting privateinformation even more effectively. This process will also helpprotect you by combating identity theft by allowing TDOSHSto verify photographs stored in the system with customerspresenting themselves for new documents.
