Normative stage model- They are theoretical models that describe psychosocial development in terms of a definite sequence of age related changes 2. Timing of events model-Change is not related so much on age as to the expected or unexpected occurrence and timing of important life events 3. Trait models-Focus on mental, emotional, temperamental, and behavioral traits.

Costa and McCrae -have developed a five factor model that underlie clusters of related traits: Neuroticism, extraversion, openness to experience, conscientiousness and agreeableness.
