Introduction
This report contains 10 predictions on the potential futuredevelopment of Twitter. Remember though, it
ʼ
s just myopinion, I might be wrong but I hope you
ʼ
ll find my views in-teresting in any case.
1) Twitter as aSearch Engine
As more and more users sign up to Twitter, the signal-to-noise ratio is dropping. Increasingly the only way users willbe able to find useful information will be with Twitter
ʼ
ssearch tool.In an apparent realisation of this need to
ʻ
filter
ʼ
Twitter con-tent, the micro-blogging service has been developing andenhancing it
ʼ
s search feature, bringing it to the mainTwitter.com website where previously it was only availableatwww.search.twitter.com.Over time this
ʻ
search
ʼ
aspect of Twitter will gain promi-nence and where-as the user interaction with Twitter nowstarts with the creation of a
ʻ
Tweet
ʼ
, in the future a fatsearch box might replace the current status update formfield as the intended first point of interaction with the site.

In addition to this, real time search engines likehttp://www.scoopler.comhave already cropped up and areheavily leveraging the real-time search capabilities of Twit-ter and other social media websites.
2) Twitter to Menace Google
It
ʼ
s hard to imagine that any challengers could threatenGoogle, and even Twitter is a mere tadpole compared tothe mighty Google. However, at Google
ʼ
s recent
ʻ
Sear-chology
ʼ
event, real-time search was listed as the numberone challenge facing the search goliath. Twitter has a con-crete advantage here, with results that are human-filteredand almost real time. Instead of directly attacking Googlehead on with a copy-cat search tool, Twitter search offersan adjacent and often more compelling search experience. With news, blog posts, blog comments and user generatedcontent being constantly uploaded to the net, a search toolthat focuses on sifting through this content and bringingusers relevant and timely results has a lot of potential.
