BOSTON, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- In its Summer 2005 special issue, available on college campuses by April 15, Current Magazine presents its hand-picked list of 15 college students to keep your eye on-they are "The Vanguard," the next generation of American leaders. For the last few months, Current's entire staff has scoured the country, sifting through newspaper articles, emailing old friends, and calling Public Relations departments at countless schools to produce a truly daunting list of the most talented and inspired students out there. Featured on the cover are Chinaka Hodge, a writer and award-winning slam poet from NYU, Erica Dawan, a women's activist from the University of Pennsylvania, and MC

* Artist: Julie Ramirez (Angelo State University) has earned national
recognition from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, Nationwide
Insurance Hispanic Heritage Art Contest, and the Tejano Conjunto
Festival.

* Inventor: Wei Gu (University of Michigan) won the top prize in the
undergraduate category of the 2004 Collegiate Inventors Competition. His
contribution to the field of microfluidics is expected to revolutionize
both medical testing and stem cell research.

* Actress: Halley Wegryn Gross (NYU) spends her days in class at NYU's
Gallatin School of Individualized Study, and her nights performing
alongside Ethan Hawke and other notables in the off-Broadway production,
Hurlyburly.

* Technological Genius: Wayne Change (UMass, Amherst) developed i2hub, an
Internet peer-to-peer application designed for file-sharing between
college students.

* Religious Leader: Hans Zeiger (Hillsdale College) is one of the most
outspoken young conservative and religious leaders in the country and a
writer whose columns have been picked up by a number of prominent
publications.

* Scientist: Jamie Rubin's (MIT) research on Candida albicans, a yeast
infection virus, might have life-changing implications for AIDS and
cancer patients.

* Civil Servant: Johnny Madrid (Stanford) has dedicated himself to
bettering American foster care. He teaches a seminar on public
speaking, manages the Stanford Foster Care College Project, and helped
formulate the Foster Child Bill of Rights in 2001

* Military Figure: Wrendon Hunt (West Point) serves as the Brigade
Athletics Officer on the highly honored Brigade Staff, which puts him in
charge of the physical education testing program and intramural sports
systems for all 4,000 cadets.
